This superbly refurbished apartment, set within a handsome Arts and Crafts-era country house, offers couples the perfect place to unwind between Lake District adventures. Within easy reach, you'll find Lake Windermere's shoreline (1 mile). Enjoy a takeaway coffee before catching the Bowness ferry and cruising over as the fells rise ahead like a film set. Sail over to Ambleside (6 miles), where you can poke around independent bookshops, grab a pint by the River Rothay, and gaze upon one of the national park's most photographed buildings – The Bridge House (6.5 miles). Hikers can lace up for Wansfell Pike (4.5 miles), one of many waymarked routes in the area, and enjoy the sunset. For a culture fix, dip into Wordsworth's world in Grasmere (9.5 miles) or The World of Beatrix Potter (3.5 miles).
Approach Applethwaite Hall via the long, private driveway and park your car. Step through the grand entrance and up to the second floor to reach your apartment. At the heart of this charming bolthole is the light-filled, open-plan living space, where a sumptuous corner sofa and Smart TV offer cosy nights in. The sleek, modern kitchen is fully equipped with high-spec Neff appliances, and the dining area is perfect for slow breakfasts and candlelit suppers for two.
