About this house rental

Summary:

Come back from the beach, rinse off the salt in the lava-rock outdoor shower, and carry your morning coffee onto the lanai for mountain sunrise color. Star of Waikoloa is a two-bedroom home that sleeps eight, about two miles from the beach and designed for a group that wants room to settle in. Air conditioning keeps the house cool, while the full kitchen, dishwasher, washer and dryer, board games, and BBQ make long, easy evenings possible. Waikoloa Golf is about a mile and a half away, and Mauna Lani, the Francis H. Iʻi Brown courses, beach time, and resort dining are all within reach. It is a roomy, practical Big Island base for active families or friends who want their own home rather than a single hotel room.

The Space:

This single-level Hawaiian home pairs mountain views with the small comforts that matter after a beach day. The fully equipped kitchen looks toward the mountains, and the back lanai is made for taking coffee outside at sunrise. Two bedrooms and two baths sleep eight, with air conditioning, board games, a BBQ, washer and dryer, and a private lava-rock outdoor shower for sandy feet.

Guest Access:

This Star of Waikoloa Ainamalu House is a private home with its own patio or balcony, a step-free private entrance, and a lit path at night for easy arrivals. Guests use the full kitchen and BBQ grill on-site. There are no shared resort amenities, just a quiet, self contained stay near the beach and mountains.

The Neighborhood:

Waikoloa is made for sunny Big Island days, with Anaehoʻomalu Bay, coastal golf, and resort dining all within easy reach. Spend a morning at A-Bay, where historic fishponds sit behind the sand, then head to Queens' MarketPlace or Kings' Shops for a meal and supplies. The wider Kohala Coast opens up for beach hopping, snorkeling, and sunset drives, while Waikoloa itself feels relaxed and practical. It is a strong base for travelers who want the Big Island's dry, beach-forward side.

Getting Around:

Kona International Airport is roughly 20 to 30 minutes away, an easy drive up the Kohala Coast. A rental car is recommended to reach beaches, restaurants, and the resort area's shops with ease. Waikoloa Beach Resort keeps some shopping and dining walkable, while nearby beaches and Waikoloa Village are a short drive. Parking is generally available in resort lots or on site at most properties.

Other Things to Note:

Private entrance. There is 1 camera on the garage facing the front driveway perimeter. Stays over 28 nights may be eligible for a fee waiver. This property is managed by Heavenly Vacations.

Interaction with Guests:

Our local Heavenly Vacations Hawaii Island team is just a call or message away throughout your stay. From Kona sunsets to Volcano adventures, we love sharing our favorite places to enjoy on the Big Island, and we are here to help right away should any issue arise. We respect your privacy and are here whenever you need us.

We liked the house and the location. My kids particularly liked the outdoor shower. However, the listing wasn't clear that the front of the house is subdivided and so were surprised to have two people let themselves into a separate apartment late at night. They were then loud for two hours and I had to go over there myself to ask them to be quiet as the property manager wasn't able to solve the problem. The rental company subsequently helped address the issue a couple of days later. Thankfully the subunit was empty for the rest of our stay. When we did have the house to ourselves, we enjoyed the backyard and the ample living spaces. The kitchen has adequate dishes and pots/pans but no basic condiments - not even salt. We had to purchase a container of salt to make breakfasts - I'd be curious to know if they left it there for future guests!

Great location, clean, great view of the volcanoes, spacious, good price, beach equipment provided, good connectivity. But the furniture was bare or a bit worn out. The pantry was totally empty, not even bare essentials, so bring your own or plan a Target run at Kona if you plan to cook. Overall a decent value for the price.

The Big Island has a few very distinct areas. The home is in the resort area of the island so if you like that vibe then its a perfect spot. But you won't find any local flavor in the area and the closest is Kona which is a 35+ minute drive. My husband and I refered to the house as the vanilla box. It is very clean and spacious and has laundry facilities, everything you need for the beach and an interesting view of the lava fields. Bun no warmth or character. It felt very cold. If you plan to cook at home you will need to buy everything. Unlike many VRBO's where the pantry has at least the basics, the house has only the pots and pans and tablewear. Best part for us was that we like to do lots of day trips so from the location we could go in any direction to get to the major areas. It really is perfectly situated for that purpose.
