A lovely, spacious property for an extended family get together to enjoy a summer holiday in Wales and to experience the solar eclipse from the private enclosed garden. This featured a swing set for little ones to use, outdoor furniture to enjoy alfresco dining, there was even a vegetable patch/pots which we were able to water and enjoy some of the produce. The rotary washing line was useful ! A few initial staple food items we were grateful for upon arrival and for 1st morning as shops a bit of a way to go. The master bedroom was a huge space for 2 adults and 2 young children, having an ensuite toilet/shower. 3 other decent sized bedrooms and a fab family bathroom. 2 potable Fans were a great relief (the smallest double room got warm) No wardrobe either- bit no big deal as door hook hanging space for some clothes. Wonderful open-plan areas; we loved Kitchen/diner space leading onto the garden Large living room we didn't really use, just to sit quietly, had an added play space with books and toys for the children to enjoy. Board games/puzzles for older gen were also available. Plus a snug room on the front of the house with extra sleeping space, a desk area for gaming or even home working if required. Some more books to borrow. Diveway for 3/5 cars, a quiet cul-de-sac. Location was good if you don't mind walking, 20-25 mins down to Porthcawl town and onto the Sandy beach, small harbour and seafront with lots to do or other way up along the coastal path for scenic, rural, seaviews and onto Rest Beach for families and surfers etc.
Loads of positives however, would've been good to have a downstairs loo especially for older family members/little ones as a bit of a trek upstairs, only one loo free when the young children were sleeping in master bedroom. An extra shower downstairs would have been ideal, especially, when we were all wanting showers after a beach day! (garage space could accommodate this) Blinds on the Kitchen and Dining room windows to keep the hot sun/bugs out in the evening, we needed to have windows open for air. Waste management was a bit of a faff as not enough bin bags to our knowledge. Hand soaps were limited so had to get some and realised no shower gel etc provided. Worth knowing Sykes cottages are in charge/manage the property and not easy to contact regarding any issues etc.
