About this house rental

Sitting on the porch looking at the dune line and the ocean is our happy place. For a few weeks each year we share our duplex with our guests. It is la quiet beach located on a 4 mile long NC barrier island that sits on the North Carolina/South Carolina line. National Geographic called one of the worlds best beaches https://sunsetnc.com/sunset-beach-named-one-best-beaches-world-national-geographic.

The house is professionally decorated, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Each bedroom has a name, a personality and comfortable beds. The nautical Crew room with its game table, television, stocked bookcase and bunk beds, is a favorite with kids. It has two adult size full beds topped with twin bunk beds.

The large Stateroom and Captain's Quarters have televisions, daybeds and en suite bathrooms. The Captain's Quarter's upper deck has a spectacular ocean view. The elegant Mates room has twin beds and a view to the sea,

The kitchen features open shelving for dishware and is well equipped for cooking and baking. The dining and living areas provide family space for entertainment- including a game table, games, large screen television. We are readers so it is also stocked with books and puzzles. There is a small "work from home" desk overlooking the ocean (internet provided) and a small bar for libations. (liquor not provided) The laundry area is also on the main floor.

Outside the living room, a classic southern porch overlooks the dunes and ocean. The porch is furnished with rockers for relaxing and a standing cooler for easily accessible drinks. Watering the herb pot and admiring the hydrangeas is appreciated. The porch is just steps from the boardwalk to the ocean.

Beneath the porch is a huge custom outdoor shower, a gas grill for renter use and a lawn for games. Our family uses the lawnside "judges chairs" for croquet games. Be sure to bring your family's favorite lawn game!

The beach is a football field wide at low tide -accommodating bike riding, Bocci ball, football and tide pool splashing for little ones. The water is warm with a gradual slope that invites swimming and surfing for all ages. The sand sculptures and beach labyrinths frequently appear. The Shibumis, designed by North Carolinians, flutter in the wind. At night the turtles come ashore to lay their eggs.

The fishing pier is exactly a mile down the beach and has the best hot dogs in town. Serious fishermen will appreciate the piers amenities and casual anglers will appreciate the rental equipment and beverages. For $1 (cash) you can stroll the pier and read the placards with the history of the island.

Across the road is Coastal Grounds -which is next to the Surf Shop -selling upscale beach gear. The states original Sunset Slush Italian ice is next to the Island Market. Sunset Beach Trading company is your source for all things labeled Sunset Beach -don't miss the puzzle or the island monopoly game!

Across the bridge, golf (with alligators in the ponds), pickleball (with an alligators in the pond), tennis (no alligators), are within a few miles. There is easy access to grocery stores, drugstores, clothing shops, restaurants and even a pilates studio and a bookstore. Bill's Seafood is legendary for their "just off the boat" fish and shrimp.

The marsh and intercoastal waterway that separates the island from the mainland offer many activities. Marsh tours by kayak are a favorite. At a faster speed Jet skiing on the is available on the intercoastal. The Bird watching is superb. Our favorite is finding the Roseate Spoonbills in the trees next to the golf course ponds.

One of our favorite outings is to the Seafood Capitol of NC. Calabash has many new restaurants, but is still famous for its locally caught fish and shrimp. Nestled among the restaurants is one of the largest Christmas and Beach shops on the east coast. St. Nick's Nacks is a shoppers paradise. If you are not a shopper, and loose your family to the stores, try the homemade Bourbon Pecan Ice Cream at the nearby Calabash Creamery.

Flying into Sunset Beach, NC is easy using either the Myrtle Beach SC or Wilmington, NC airports. Both have good flight options and both are about one hour away.
