You are thirty-six floors up on Broadbeach Island, and the water starts below you and does not stop. The living room, both bedrooms and the balcony all face it, so the view runs from the surf to the horizon, and at night the coast lights up the length of the sand. The Star Residences is 63 storeys, so its residents' floors beat anything a low-rise nearby can offer.

A full apartment for four, not a hotel room. Open-plan living and dining behind floor-to-ceiling glass, opening onto a private balcony. The kitchen is a real one: gas cooktop, oven, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, Nespresso machine, kettle and toaster, with a stone island bench. Two bathrooms, one off the main bedroom. Two honest notes, better read here than discovered on arrival: this is a high-rise on the coast, so you will sometimes hear wind, and there is building work nearby that can be audible during the day.

The Neighbourhood
Eating and drinking. Oracle Boulevard is why people choose Broadbeach over Surfers Paradise, a few minutes on foot: Mamasan Kitchen & Bar, Gemelli Italian, Koi Dining & Lounge, Blowfish Ocean Grill + Bar, Sofia's Mediterranean and Costa Tacos. Moo Moo Wine Bar & Grill is on the Gold Coast Highway for steak, Alkemist Cafe & Bar does breakfast. Next door at The Star: Kiyomi, which holds a chef hat, and Nineteen at The Star. Kurrawa Surf Club on Kurrawa Parade is the honest local.
Beach and outdoors. Kurrawa Beach is about 1.1 kilometres, patrolled and much quieter than the Surfers stretch. Broadbeach Mall and the parklands sit between you and the sand. Nobby Beach and Mermaid Beach are a short drive south, Burleigh Heads fifteen minutes.
Shopping and events. Pacific Fair, the largest shopping centre in Queensland, is a short walk. The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre is six minutes on foot, the whole argument for this apartment during an event week. HOTA on Bundall Road has galleries and outdoor performances, ten minutes by car.
Getting around. Broadbeach South is the southern terminus of the G:link tram, five minutes' walk, and it runs north through Surfers Paradise, Main Beach and Southport to Helensvale. Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta is 25 minutes, Brisbane Airport an hour and a quarter.
Practical. Pindara Private Hospital at Benowa runs a 24-hour emergency and cardiac centre, about ten minutes away, and Gold Coast University Hospital at Southport has its own tram station. Bond University at Robina and Griffith University Gold Coast are both an easy drive, as are People First Stadium at Carrara and Cbus Super Stadium at Robina.
