City Jewel

The location of the apartment close to the centre of Chania and very close to the main bus station was very handy. Everything you could need is just minutes away on foot. Sitting on the balcony watching the cats and people of the neighbourhood do their thing was also very enjoyable. The presence of a washing machine is very welcome if you want to travel light and need to make sure you have clean clothes throughout your stay. Especially if you go on hikes where you can get dirty and sweaty. The many light options were a fun switch combination game and all the facilities worked perfectly. Vasiliki the proprietor is very attentive and nice. Although she couldn't be there on our arrival she did pass by before we had to leave to say hello.

There is a whole array of keyboxes outside, and the booking.com mail which should show me the correct one did not allow for images from the host to be conveyed to me. We had to try all the boxes to find the right one, and that was a bit of a hassle. Furthermore, as can be expected in a small street in the centre of a city, there are some days and times where the traffic can become congested and then you have to keep windows closed against noise and exhaust. Fortunately that only happens on some mornings/lunchtime when most people who are there for a visit would leave the house anyway. The hot water boiler system for the shower takes some trial-and-error to find the right balance, but you'll get the hang of it.

The unit? Clean. New. Thoughtful. Thorough. Complete. … The host? Kind. Considerate. Helpful. Understanding. Amicable. Malleable. We have been in nearly 2 dozen units throughout Greece in the last 2 months. This one was the nicest. The owner has taken the time to think about the needs of her guests and done a great job proactively addressing them.

We were very happy with our stay at City Jewel. Arriving at the property and collecting the keys was extremely easy. Although we never had the opportunity to meet our host, dear Vasiliki, in person, she was exceptionally kind, polite and thoughtful throughout our stay. We were also pleasantly surprised to find complimentary drinks such as fruit juice, beer and water waiting for us in the apartment. Most importantly, the apartment itself was very comfortable, spacious enough, clean and well equipped for a pleasant stay. The location was another major advantage for us. It is very close to Chania Old Town, and we could easily walk to almost everywhere we wanted to go. We are the kind of travellers who prefer to explore cities on foot, rather than simply visit the main tourist attractions, so the location was absolutely ideal for us. This was our first trip to Crete. We initially thought that six days would be enough to explore the island, but by the end of our trip we realised that we would need at least 15 days to really discover Crete properly. We are already planning our next trip for 15 days! A big thank you to Vasiliki, who made us feel very comfortable and welcome. When we return to Crete, City Jewel will definitely be one of the places we would consider staying again.

One thing to keep in mind is that, due to the apartment’s central location, the surrounding area can become quite lively late at night. After midnight, there can sometimes be groups of people who have been drinking, talking loudly in the street, which may occasionally make it difficult to have a completely quiet and comfortable night’s sleep. Another point is that some of the other units on the same floor appeared to be used as offices or businesses rather than residential apartments. This was not a major issue for us, but it did make the overall atmosphere feel slightly less like a residential building.

We had a wonderful stay! The apartment was absolutely beautiful, modern, immaculate, and had everything we could possibly need. From the moment we arrived, we felt incredibly welcome and comfortable. The host was lovely, attentive, and very quick to respond whenever we had a question. Everything was thoughtfully arranged, and we truly appreciated the care and hospitality throughout our stay. We would definitely love to come back!
