Originally built in 1922, this charming villa has been fully renovated with care, preserving its traditional character while introducing all the modern comforts needed for a relaxing stay. High ceilings, open spaces, and carefully maintained original features give the home a unique personality that reflects its rich past.
The villa takes its name from the papaya trees that once filled the property, adding a special connection to its history and surroundings. Throughout the house, guests will also find unique artwork created by Alex DeFrancesca, the owners’ son. These pieces are precious, personal, and make the villa feel even more authentic and one of a kind.
Set in Funchal, Papaya Villa enjoys an exceptional panoramic setting with incredible 360-degree views over the city, mountains, ocean, marina, and coastline. Whether you are watching the sunrise with a coffee in hand, enjoying a sunset swim, or admiring Madeira’s famous New Year’s Eve fireworks, the villa offers an unforgettable backdrop for every moment.
The outdoor areas have been designed for guests to make the most of Madeira’s climate. Relax by the private pool, dine outdoors on the spacious terrace, enjoy the landscaped gardens, or gather around the barbecue and wet bar area. The property is fully private, with enclosed surroundings that allow guests to unwind in complete peace.
Inside, the villa comfortably accommodates families or groups with three bedrooms, all with wardrobes. The master bedroom features an ensuite bathroom, while the remaining two bedrooms share a spacious adjoining bathroom.
The villa also includes a bright living room, dining area, fully equipped kitchen, laundry area, and an additional guest bathroom. For year-round comfort, there is air conditioning and heating throughout the home, with independent temperature control.
