The Space:
Sandpiper Mills is an oceanside 7-bedroom, 6.5-bath retreat in Corolla's Whalehead Beach community, with over 4,200 square feet of space for family weeks and friends getaways. Four king ensuites plus bunk and queen rooms sleep 20, so the whole crew has room to spread out.
The top-level great room ties the kitchen, dining, and living areas into one big gathering space. The kitchen handles a crowd with a center island, two dishwashers, a breakfast bar that seats 6, and a farmhouse table for 12. This review is more about our experience with the property management than the house itself, which is unfortunate because this house has the potential to be one of the best in Corolla. Property wasn’t ready at check-in time on Saturday so we sat in the pool area while the cleaners “cleaned” a 7BR house in 35 minutes, which tells you the level of clean that occurred. Pool area, tiki bar area and hot tub weren’t touched… We reported several issues with the house when we checked in (broken microwave, door on tiki bar wouldn’t roll up properly) and they were never resolved all week. With that in mind, here is our experience. Pros: - House layout was good, plenty of room to stretch out and privacy for a large group. - Nice mix of king-sized beds bunkbeds, all rooms with access to a bathroom. - Kitchen had plenty of utensils and whatnot. - Pool is one of the larger pools we saw in the area. - Hot tub was great. - Whalehead neighborhood and proximity to shopping, restaurants, etc. in Corolla was great. - Proximity to beach was great. - Volleyball court was great, bigger than most in the neighborhood. Cons: - Lack of towels, washcloths, etc. You get a sealed bag with one bath towel and washcloth per bed, no bathmats, additional towels, etc. - Zero documentation on the house. Would have been great to have instructions on Hot tub, Gas Grille (which was filthy BTW). - Kitchen appliances were outdated and falling apart (microwave)
