About this apartment rental

Summary:

Wake to the cries of seabirds and watch fishing boats motor past from your waterfront perch. This intimate studio sleeps 2 and sits directly over Bodega Bay on weathered pilings — the water literally flows beneath you. Sip morning coffee on the narrow deck as harbor seals surface nearby. Just steps from Diekmann's Bay Store and The Boat House restaurant. An hour and a half from San Francisco, you'll find the coastal reset you've been craving.

The Space:

The water moves beneath the floorboards of this studio cottage, built on weathered pilings directly over Bodega Bay — harbor seals surface off the deck rail and the fishing fleet idles past the windows. A four-poster queen and a gas fireplace make it a front-row perch for 2.

The single room layers living, sleeping, and dining around the bay outside the windows. A leather sofa and armchair circle the gas fireplace; a four-poster queen bed anchors the far end, framed so the harbor is the first thing you see at sunrise. The kitchenette is set up for the morning kettle and reheats — there's no stovetop, so plan to walk to The Boat House or Spud Point for the rest. A drop-leaf table by the window seats two as boats motor past.

OUTDOOR LIVING

A narrow wooden walkway runs along the water side of the cottage, offering direct access to bay views. The weathered wood deck with railings becomes your perch for morning coffee or evening wine as the sunset paints the water in golds and pinks.

THE HARBOR ON FOOT

Diekmann's Bay Store covers provisions 0.1 miles up the road, The Boat House plates fish and chips at 0.2, and Gourmet Au Bay pours wine flights the same distance. Spud Point's chowder line forms 0.6 miles along the water, Terrapin Creek handles the anniversary dinner at 0.5, and Doran Regional Park's family beach curves out 1.3 miles south. Worth knowing before you book: 55 steps descend from the road to the front door.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

The main room features a wooden four-poster queen bed with navy blue bedding, positioned to capture bay views right from your pillow. A snug, watertop nest for 2.

PROPERTY AMENITIES

-- Studio layout, 1 bathroom

-- Flat-screen cable TV

-- WiFi (note: can be intermittent)

Guest Access:

Step into a cottage built right over the water on pilings — porthole-mirror baths, panoramic harbor views, and a deck that opens straight onto the bay for outdoor dining. The whole cottage is yours, with a gas fireplace and a BBQ set up for sunset. Grab the key from the lockbox; one parallel space sits along Highway 1 (please ease in carefully).

The Neighborhood:

Perched directly over Bodega Bay in the heart of this working fishing village, you're perfectly positioned to experience authentic coastal California. Stroll 0.1 miles to Diekmann's Bay Store for morning provisions or grab fresh crab sandwiches at the legendary Spud Point Crab Company (0.6 miles). The Boat House restaurant sits just 0.2 miles away for waterfront dining, while Gourmet Au Bay (0.2 miles) offers wine flights and wood-fired flatbreads. For a special dinner, book a table at acclaimed Terrapin Creek (0.5 miles). Nature lovers will appreciate Coastal Prairie Trail Access (0.6 miles) for bluff-top walks and Doran Regional Park (1.3 miles) for the area's most family-friendly beach. The famous Bodega Head whale-watching spot is 3 miles south. This is Hitchcock country — the town of Bodega with its Birds filming locations lies 5 miles inland.

Getting Around:

Bodega Bay is about 90 minutes from San Francisco — a beautiful drive up 101 and out Highway 1 through farmland and coastal ranches. A car makes exploring the Sonoma Coast effortless — it unfolds for miles in either direction. Cell service is light along the coast, so downloading offline maps before you arrive is a good idea.

Other Things to Note:

• The cottage's unique position over the water means you'll hear the rhythmic sounds of the bay throughout your stay — from gentle lapping waves to the occasional sea lion bark.

• Internet service can be intermittent in this coastal area, so we recommend not bringing time-sensitive work.

• The 55-step descent to the cottage entrance requires moderate mobility.

• While there's no air conditioning, the cottage stays naturally cool thanks to coastal breezes and fog.

• The kitchenette lacks a stovetop, but the microwave and local restaurants provide plenty of dining options.

• Cell service can be limited — embrace the chance to unplug.

• The cottage sits on pilings over the water, so you may notice slight movement during storms.

• The primary renter must be 21 or older.

• No beach access is available directly from the property, but beautiful state beaches are just a few miles north or south on Highway 1.

Clean room, The kitchen had what we needed to cook with and the view was great.

Great location with a short drive to nearby hiking trails and several good restaurant options. The unit also has a cute fireplace with a temperature control feature, which made the space feel very cozy. There are narrow steps leading down to the unit, which may be a bit challenging for guests with mobility issues. A couple of maintenance items could use attention. One of the windows was taped due to damage, which blocked part of the view and would be nice to see repaired. The balcony railing facing the water also seemed a bit worn and may benefit from some upkeep, especially for guests traveling with children.

Property needs some updates. Windows dont stay all the way open. Window to left of tv falls away from window sill. Door knob going out to porch falls off. Bed uncomfortable. We sleept 2nd night on fold out couch because it was more comfortable. Deck railing wobbly and not secured completely. Unsafe if leaned on.
