About this house rental
Cradled beneath the ancient limbs of a 500-year-old oak named Marilyn Sophie Abby the Fairy, this lovingly maintained 1939 Midtown Tallahassee home holds decades of memory, healing, and heart. She's named for both the Japanese philosophy of imperfect beauty and the foster-fail pup who taught us its meaning.
A HOME THAT HOLDS YOU
Step inside to hand-restored furniture, rescued plants, and curated artwork that tells a story of resilience and renewal. Three bedrooms (King, Queen, Full) sleep 6 comfortably. The kitchen is fully stocked — guests say it's the best they've seen on any platform — the dining room seats 6, the sunroom has light exercise equipment, and the fenced backyard gives pets room to roam.
Practical things that matter: Level 2 EV charger, free parking for up to 6 cars, high-speed WiFi, washer and dryer, a dedicated office with a twin-size convertible chair, and smart-lock self check-in. Minutes from FSU, Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, the Capitol, and downtown — and walkable to wonderful midtown food. (Midtown is lively and friendly, not a secluded retreat — if total seclusion is what you're after, she may not be your match.)
A NOTE ABOUT HER AGE — AND WHO SHE'S FOR
Built in 1939, Lady Wabi Sabi is a character home, not new construction. Most floors are original and creak (the kitchen, bathrooms, office, and patio are the exceptions); the doors have personality; and nothing quite matches — not even the bath towels, not on purpose, but because that's simply who she is. We've restored and upgraded thoughtfully (modern kitchen, smart lock, EV charger), but she wears her age with grace. If you love a home with soul over a home with perfection, you'll adore her. If you want crisp, uniform, hotel-style minimalism, she'll gently disappoint you — and we'd rather tell you now.
A few honest things to know before you book:
- The front entrance has 14 steps and there is no step-free or ground-level entry — best for guests comfortable with stairs.
- Her linens are exclusively French and Portuguese linen. We love them; if you strongly prefer bamboo or cotton, that's not what you'll find here.
- The plumbing is vintage: no garbage disposal, and the basement laundry has steep steps and a low ceiling. There's a locked downstairs storage area that isn't part of your space.
- Smoking is outside only. We don't keep an outdoor ashtray, so smokers will need a container of their own and should dispose of butts properly — not on the grounds.
- Pets are welcome with advance notice. No animals live here — ours stay at our home. We launder all linens after every guest and swap the indoor rugs after any dog stay. (One honest note: the patio rug isn't washable and the floors aren't deep-shampooed every turnover — they're cleaned, just not professionally shampooed each time.)
- For everyone's peace of mind, there are discreet security cameras outside only. There are none inside, ever.
YOUR STAY MAKES A DIFFERENCE
She has sheltered people since 1939 — through every season, every story, every kind of guest. Caring for a home this old is a labor of love, and every booking goes right back into her: preserving her character, tending what needs tending, and making her a little more comfortable and beautiful for whoever comes next. When you stay, you become part of how she keeps going. Thank you for being part of her story.
Whether you're here for a game weekend, a family visit, a hospital stay, or a quiet reset, Lady Wabi Sabi gives you room to rest, reflect, and reconnect. Come as you are — leave lighter. Come find the magic in the mess.
Available 24/7 if you need anything.
