Hypogeum Suites Studio level 1

Pros: * The room was clean upon arrival and appeared to have been recently renovated. * It was generally well equipped. * Having three European power outlets/adapters was extremely useful, especially since Malta uses UK-style plugs. * The location was very convenient despite being in Paola rather than Valletta. Buses were frequent and well connected, making it easy to explore Malta, often with just one change. * Valletta was only around 20 minutes away by bus, and the airport was also very close. * The host was very responsive to messages, particularly when we had the flooding issue and needed a mop. * When requested, the host provided white bed sheets and a hairdryer.

Cons: * The door locks were extremely difficult to use, both when opening and locking the room. * The refrigerator was inside a cupboard whose door had apparently come loose. It was very difficult to open and made a very loud scraping noise against the tiles every time. * The beds seemed to be of very low quality and squeaked loudly with even the slightest movement. * The bathroom setup caused water to escape into the room and flood a large part of it one evening. Although the host responded quickly and provided a mop, this was obviously a serious issue. * The shower curtain fell down while we were showering because it was clearly not properly secured. * There was nowhere suitable to hang towels, swimsuits or wet clothes. Since there is no balcony or proper drying area, this made everyday life very difficult. We ended up hanging things from the shower curtain rod, which likely contributed to it eventually falling. * There was no housekeeping at all during our six-night stay. Nobody came to clean, take out the rubbish, change the sheets or replace the towels. * We specifically asked the host for additional toilet paper and fresh towels, but these were never provided. We were given only three toilet rolls for six days and one set of towels, which was insufficient. * We understand that this is not a traditional hotel, but since we booked through Booking.com, we expected at least basic servicing or sufficient supplies for a six-night stay. * A glass section above the main window/shutter had no curtain or blind. As soon as the sun came up, the room became extremely bright, causing us to wake up around 8:30–9:00 every morning even when we wanted to sleep longer. A simple curtain would have solved this. * On our second-to-last night, we found a cockroach in the room, which was obviously very unpleasant. Overall, there are several positive aspects, particularly the cleanliness upon arrival, the location, transport connections, equipment and the host’s responsiveness.
