Smugglers Retreat - Sea Views & Garden, Rottingdean

The property is charming and includes everything we needed for our short stay. It was very conveniently located by the sea and the high street of Rottingdean with nice shops. We were able to park across the road in the carpark at night time and for free on the roads during the day. My children enjoyed playing with the games and the shower was very good. I appreciated the coffee machine and capsules and airfryer which made my stay more pleasant! The owner was very helpful and all details were provided in good time and with quick responses.

There was some road noise in the early evening and morning for myself and my husband staying in the double bedroom but it actually wasn't a problem during the later evening and didnt wake us up during the night. My kids were a bit unsure about their bedroom being in the basement but they got over it when they realised how nice the room is. Neither of those things could be changed and the location and convenience of the property far outweigh them.

Fantastic find in a great location within easy reach of family in Lewes and a bus stop over the road with regular buses running to Brighton. Clean and spacious apartment with the added benefit of an outside space. Everything had been thought of down to a blanket for our doggy to lie on at night time. Lyndsay was a great host answering our questions about parking and sending us a map prior to arriving of places to park. Although the apartment has no parking space we didn’t have a problem with parking, finding a space about 5 mins walk away, but you can pull in at the front of the apartment to unload and load a car. It’s only a short walk away from the sea front, Rottingdean village and places to eat. Overall we had a great time staying at ‘Smugglers Retreat’ we would definitely recommend it if visiting the area.

It is on a busy road, but this did not cause us any problems and is very convenient for buses to Brighton.

We have just had a wonderful stay at Smugglers retreat. The apartment is absolutely beautiful with such attention to detail and very thoughtful touches. Spotlessly clean throughout with everything we could need for a very comfortable stay. Just a walk across the main road to a lovely beach. The village itself is steeped in history and has some beautiful historical buildings and gardens. We loved tea and cake at the tea room at The Grange and had a particularly fabulous meal at 'Daisy's' cafe. The deli/fruit shop is really fantastic! The busses are extremely efficient, we didn't wait longer that 2 minutes before a bus into Brighton came along. We loved exploring Brighton, particularly the North Laines and Brighton Pavilion. We also loved the Lido just down the road in Saltdean. The gorgeous medieval village of Alfriston is certainly worth a visit too. A great base for a holiday by the sea 😊

I was worried about there being no parking space, but as Lyndsay had advised there is road parking available very close by. We were also able to pull outside the front door to unload/load the car with no problem at all.

Location we needed was fab. Lovely and clean everything you needed was in the apartment. Beds very comfortable.

Everything was great.
