About this house rental

Cotter’s Way
:.instagram/cotters.way/

All Linen is provided - although you may want to bring your favorite beach towel.

Built in the mid-1960s by a chap named Bob Cotter, Cotter’s Way, is the quintessential, Australian lake house.

Conveniently located between two of the Sapphire Coast’s most popular tourism destinations - Bermagui and Tilba - Cotter’s Way backs onto Wallaga Lake National Park (the lake itself is accessible from the back of the property via a short path), an idyllic, salt-water estuary, overflowing with natural beauty and native wildlife. Set to the backdrop of Mount Gulaga, the lake is rather photogenic as well as being a great place for swimming, fishing and even prawning in the appropriate season.

A coastal path leads from the backdoor of the house all the way into Bermagui for those keen to see some of the area’s most striking landscapes on foot, for all others, Bermi is a mere 15 minute drive down Wallaga Lake Road.

Cotter’s Way is perched on a private and generous block, sheltered from the harsher coastal elements, with plenty of north-facing windows ensuring it is well-lit all year round. The backyard was once host to an elaborate vegetable garden and orchard cultivated by Bob Cotter and his wife Florence throughout the 70s. They would sell their produce at the Central Tilba markets (which continue to run to this day) and the legacy of their orchard remains on the property in the form of the nectarines, peaches, bananas, grapes and figs that seasonally make an appearance. If you see them, guests are encouraged to help themselves before the possums do.

The house has been tastefully furnished with era-appropriate, mid-century furniture supplemented by complimentary, contemporary additions. The house layout is thoughtfully spaced out, boasting two separate sitting areas, a dining room, a kitchen with breakfast island, two large bedrooms, a bathroom/laundry and a separate toilet.

There is a story for everything here. The Yuin people are the traditional custodians of Wallaga Lake and the area upon which Cotter's Way was built is rich with a fascinating Indigenous history that is celebrated in everything you see here. Cotter's Way is more than a house, it is a way of life we encourage our guests to adopt on their visits, one that celebrates the natural beauty of this sacred place and seeks to add their own story to those that have come before them.
