The Neighborhood:
The cabin sits off Highway 140 in Hesperus, a peaceful rural community about 20 minutes from Durango. Dine at the beloved Kennebec Café—a Mediterranean‑inspired restaurant that offers casual elegance, local wine and beer, vegetarian options and beautiful views of the La Plata Mountains. Outdoor adventure abounds: ski or tube at Hesperus Ski Area, just 11 miles west of Durango, which boasts 26 trails on 60 skiable acres and is the largest night‑skiing operation in the southwest. Take a day trip to Mesa Verde National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving nearly 600 cliff dwellings, located about 35 miles west.
Getting Around:
A car is recommended. The cabin is directly off Highway 140, making it easy to reach Durango’s shops and restaurants, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, and ski resorts. In winter, 4WD or AWD vehicles are advised. The driveway is plowed, but snow and ice are possible.
Other Things to Note:
No smoking or pets inside the home.
Quiet hours after 10 pm to respect rural neighbors.
Children should be supervised; wildlife such as deer and foxes may visit the property.
Winter travel may require chains or 4WD.
Please bag trash and place it in outside bins; wildlife proofing is essential. Trash service for longer stays; Monday at 6:00AM
