The Site: As early as 1998, Rysum was named the most beautiful village in Lower Saxony. Surrounding the church—located at the highest point of this historic village built on a mound and home to one of the oldest playable organs in the world—are the former farmworkers’ and artisans’ houses, as well as large farmsteads, arranged in a circular pattern, creating the distinctive charm of this circular village.

On the outer ring of the village stands the Gulfhof, believed to have been built by Ufko Andreesen van Senden around 1890. In recent years, it has been extensively renovated with great attention to detail and in accordance with historic preservation standards, and converted into an exceptional vacation residence featuring 15 high-quality apartments.
Even during the renovation phase, the old building successfully withstood many adverse conditions—including wind, weather, and, above all, water—and now proudly shines in new splendor.

All apartments are duplexes and feature modern floor plans. By incorporating the historic post-and-beam framework into the interior design, the units also gain a special, distinctive character. Underfloor heating, solid wood parquet floors, and fixtures and ceramics from renowned manufacturers ensure a high level of living comfort. Each apartment includes a spacious terrace as well as a parking space with a storage shed. The outdoor areas of the approximately 4,000-square-meter property are characterized—particularly on the south and east sides—by generous green spaces that have been tastefully landscaped with shrubs and hedges. A grove of mature trees rounds out the overall picture.

The Gulfhof van Senden is the ideal starting point for a wide range of activities: hiking, biking, or kayaking in the Krummhörn region; cultural excursions to popular nearby towns such as Greetsiel, Pilsum, Norden/Norddeich, and Emden; or even day trips to the nearby East Frisian islands of Borkum, Norderney, and Juist. The somewhat secluded, little-known natural beach at the Knock is just a short bike ride away and is a special highlight.

In the historic atmosphere of the Gulfhof von Senden, Apartment 9 “Rieke” awaits you as an exceptionally cozy vacation home for up to 5 people + 1 baby. High-quality furnishings, thoughtfully designed, and with a charm all its own—perfect for families, friends, or couples who appreciate spacious living with a special sense of comfort.

The vacation apartment spans two levels and features a separate entrance that does not pass through the Gulfhof’s large entrance hall. This gives you extra privacy and allows you to step right into your own vacation retreat.

The centerpiece of the apartment is the large dining table that seats up to 8 people—ideal for shared meals, game nights, or simply cozy get-togethers. Right next to it is the modern, well-equipped kitchen. A freestanding refrigerator offers plenty of storage space. In addition, an induction cooktop, dishwasher, fully automatic coffee machine, drip coffee maker, milk frother, toaster, air fryer, and much more ensure the utmost convenience while cooking.
The centerpiece for all movie and TV series lovers is the separate living room, which has been designed as a private home theater: a 65-inch TV with a soundbar creates a true home theater experience—ideal for cozy evenings after a day spent enjoying the fresh North Sea air.

The first bedroom features a real highlight: the huge family bed (2.70 m wide)—perfect for snuggling together, reading, or simply sleeping in.
In the second bedroom, you’ll find a cozy nook (1.60 m wide) that exudes a unique sense of comfort—popular with children and adults alike. You’ll also find a practical desk here, which offers a comfortable home office setup.

The vacation rental features two stylishly designed bathrooms:
• one with a walk-in shower
• one with a comfortable bathtub

The kitchen opens directly onto the spacious terrace. Here, a 2.30-meter-long table and 6 comfortable chairs invite you to enjoy breakfast outdoors, have a barbecue, or simply relax. Two comfortable garden chairs also offer the perfect opportunity to cozy up outside with a book or a cup of coffee.

In addition to underfloor heating, real wood parquet flooring, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speakers in the living room and kitchen, and board games, you’ll find everything you need to make your vacation enjoyable.

For our younger guests, a crib, high chair, stair gates (top and bottom), childproof outlets, toys, and books are provided.

The common area features foosball, a ping-pong table, wooden horses, and a lounge with a large table and TV, as well as a sauna.
A washing machine and dryer are available for shared use in the complex (for a fee).

Your car will be safely parked in the parking space assigned to the apartment; electric charging stations are available on our property. Bicycles can be stored in the lockable storage room, which has an electrical outlet.
