Minutes from apartment is the small Highland village of Fort Augustus. Situated on the most southern tip of Loch Ness, and with the Caledonian Canal running through the village to Loch Ness, it is a wonderful place to relax, watch the boats go through the locks, with many places to eat and drink and shop. There is plenty to do, with daily boat trips onto Loch Ness, the Great Glen Way walking trail and Great Glen Canoe Trail, a golf club, an interactive heritage centre and of course, Loch Ness monster hunting. The Isle of Skye is just over an hour away and reached by one of the most beautiful drives in Scotland, taking you through the Kintail mountain range. On route, Eileen Donan Castle is definitely worth a visit, as is the beautiful coastal village Plockton, much loved by artists. The beautiful city of Inverness and Fort William, the outdoor capital of the Highlands, are both just a 45-minute drive away.
