About this apartment rental

The 3-room vacation apartment with 2 bedrooms at Gretes Lüheanleger 95 is located on the Lühedeich in the village of Guderhandviertel in the picturesque fruit-growing region of Altes Land. The vacation apartment occupies the first floor of the house, which was completely rebuilt in 2016. For over 150 years, the Gräper family’s residential and commercial building stood on this site. Until the 1970s, the family operated a coal business in Guderhandviertel on the Lühedeich. The coal was shipped from Hamburg by boat to the family’s own dock and sold in the Altes Land region for heating and energy. It is a place steeped in history and evolving with the times. Today, the building is heated by a heat pump powered by green electricity and solar thermal energy. In the parking lot directly adjacent to the house, there is an electric vehicle charging station exclusively for use by guests of the vacation rental. The current owner, Bianca Ehlen (née Stiller), is the granddaughter of Grete Gräper, the former coal merchant after whom the house is named. The building was rebuilt in 2016 based on drawings from the early 1900s. In addition to the classic white gabled half-timbered structure, the Altland-style front door in particular captures the region’s charm. With a red tile roof and modern elements such as underfloor heating, traditional features are charmingly combined with contemporary design. From the sofa, you can watch nature at work as the Lühe River rises and falls with the changing tides. The property also includes a green space that is open toward the river and fenced off toward the top of the dike. The private dock provides access for canoeing, kayaking, or stand-up paddleboarding on the Lühe—always taking the tide and its characteristics into account, of course. The Old Land villages of Steinkirchen (3 km) and Jork (6 km), as well as the Lühe’s mouth where it flows into the Elbe (6.5 km), are easily accessible by car or bicycle. A hike along the Lühe dike toward the Elbe is highly recommended. From this elevated vantage point, you can marvel at the beauty of the Altes Land and its maritime charm. On the way to the Lühe pier, you’ll pass, among other landmarks, the historic Hogendieck Bridge, which is a popular spot for romantic photos. Once you reach your destination, you can usually treat yourself to a snack from one of the food trucks from spring through fall. A classic choice is a fish sandwich with a view of the Elbe! Thanks to its location in the Altes Land, the Guderhandviertel also offers the opportunity to follow the Lühe upstream. Whether by bike or on foot, the village of Horneburg is located 3.5 km away on the edge of the Geest ridge. While there, it’s well worth visiting the Nordik Distillery to see and enjoy a particularly fine distillation of fruit from the Altes Land region. The distillery is located in a restored industrial building at the Horneburg train station. From modern copper stills to the barrel cellar, the Weßel family and their team offer a truly delightful experience—both to savor on-site and to take home. These are just two of the many recommendations our home—the Altes Land—has to offer our guests. It’s simply a must-visit destination from which the cities of Stade, Buxtehude, and Hamburg are easily accessible by train or car.
We look forward to your visit.

Warm regards, the Bianca Ehlen family and the Stiller family
