SOMA Villa

No TV or refrigerator in the room but it was low cost.

I’ll stay here again. Staff great, very clean, good location, great value. A tv would be nice. I like to wake up and watch the news. And I was working so stayed a while and didn’t need to go out every night so a movie would have been nice. A small issue overall and if this doesn’t bother you then go for it.

I will preface this review by saying that my husband and I have been backpacking through India, Nepal, Thailand, and Cambodia for the last 1.5 years with our dog so we have tempered expectations on what to expect in Asian accommodations. That being said, we just had a number of back to back bad experiences at Soma Villa and cannot in good faith recommend it based on our experience. When we first checked in, we were taken to a room that very clearly was not the Deluxe King room that I had booked. When I brought this up to the staff, they said that the room that I had booked was not available because someone extended their stay for one night. They said they would move me into the room the next day when the guest checked out. Not only did they not inform me of any of this when I checked in, they put me in a room where the wall in the bathroom didn’t even go all the way up to the ceiling, so there was absolutely no privacy between the sleeping area and the bathroom. Furthermore, the AC in that room didn’t cool the room at all (these units seem ancient). The sleeping area was away from the direct range of the AC and we spent the entire night with the AC on full blast but sweating profusely. No adjustment in price or even apology was provided for this experience. When they finally moved us into the correct room the next day, we ran into our next problem. Because there are cracks in the doors and windows, you can hear everything outside. On its own, this wasn’t a problem since the street remains fairly quiet but on 4 nights of our remaining 9, we were woken up between 6:50am and 8am by screaming children cannonballing in the pool right beneath our balcony. The staff is not concerned with this and even when approached at 7am for the noise complaint, they didn’t say anything to the offending guests until I came down to ask them again to please handle the situation. The owner/manager even asked us the day before checking out if we’d run into any issues and I mentioned the pool timings being unclear (and a lot of noise from the pool early in the morning). He said he would address it but the next morning at 7:30 it was exactly the same thing. Aside from this, the mattress is extremely hard and uncomfortable so even on mornings that we weren’t woken up by sounds outside our window, we still felt horrible. Also the TV in both rooms doesn’t work and the pictures are deceiving. If you’ve made it this far, congratulations! Take your money elsewhere (like Villa Agati)
