About this house rental
The thatched Alte Kapitänshaus was built in Nieblum in 1743, overlooking the Frisian cathedral of St. Johannis. During the house’s eventful history, Hay Volkerts also lived there; he had spent many years at sea as a whaler and had achieved some fame. Years later, it was purchased by Jacob Jacobsen, who, after a successful stint as a gold prospector in Australia, was drawn back to his home island of Föhr. The house was completely renovated, restoring the original floor plan with its “Dörnsk” and “Pesel” rooms. During the restoration, great emphasis was placed on using historical materials. A remnant of the 1,000-year-old oak wood—which originally came from St. Johannis Church and was used as building material in this house—is still preserved in the new bathroom.
