Make sure that you video the entire apartment before you accept the keys to the apartment. Present anything that is wrong to the rental agent and VRBO. We are a 50+ year old couple doing a doing a tour of Europe. Upon arrival, we were met by the host. They were prompt, courteous, showed us around the apartment & gave us the key. The apt has a partial a beautiful partial view of marina. When we unpacked and plug in adapters, we noticed that 1 or 2 of the outlets were loose and almost coming out of the wall. The couch had quite a bit of wear & was off color, but we are not so picky. We were just happy to be in Marseille. With the bathroom, we were shocked to see the washer/dryer was in front of the toilet and approximately 6” from the toilet seat which leaves no room for your legs if you are sitting. & forget about anything else other than sliding to the side to “finish” your restroom visit. In the “bedroom” there was a broken piece of tile that had come off and we ran into it constantly, so much so that we went and bought tape so that we could somewhat patch it to avoid injury. The mattress was very uncomfortable and there was barely any room to clear the bed on one side. There was also little room to store any of your clothing or other items. The kitchen was adequate for the size of the apt & had the typical utensils. When checking out, the host declined to meet us for check out and simply asked that we leave the key on the coffee table, which we did. Despite having paid for a cleaning upon our departure, we swept the apartment, washed all the dishes & put them away, took out the garbage & stripped the bed. This is our norm whenever we stay somewhere. We left Marseille, happy and ready for the next leg of our trip. No sooner do we check in; I check my messages and I see that VRBO is charging me $150 for damages in Marseille. I was shocked and my heart sank that someone would think any part of what we did while staying in their place was without regard to the condition with which we received the apartment. We have never had a bad review ANYWHERE we have stayed and to read these outright lies was difficult. We would still recommend renting this apartment, BUT make sure you make a thorough documentation of everything you find wrong and address it immediately both with the host AND VRBO. Honestly, we will be doing this going forward with ALL our rentals. We’ve learned our lesson.

Perfect location between the water and the interesting neighborhoods. Helene had coffee, jams and staples available for us--and right around the corner a bakery!

The property was just as seen in the photos. Check-in was easy and the flat was equipped with everything one might need. A real bonus was the AC as temperatures were quite high during our visit. Just outside the door was a small market perfect for purchasing small food items and beverages. In addition, there was a bakery just outside of the flat where one can buy fresh, hot baguettes!
