Kosugi Resort With Dogs Lodge

We recently stayed for two nights at the Lodge and it was an excellent experience. While the location of the lodge is quite far uphill, especially by walking, it was very clean and nice. The futons were comfy and the bathroom was spacious. For the money I’d recommended it to anyone.

The Kosugi resort is an excellent property for a very good price. The facilities are excellent and the apartment comfortable (Very few doors though, only rent with someone if you are close enough to not want privacy). I rate this property very highly, but you need a car. It is about a 20 minute walk from the check in location and another 5 or 10 to get to the road/bus stop. All of this is uphill, which is great for the view from the property, but less so when dragging bags or returning from hikes up Mt Aso. Doing that, with luggage on arrival/departure and then every time you want to go to a restaurant, shop or sightsee is extremely draining on foot. The public transport options exist, about 3 times a day there is a bus and if you walk another 20-30 minutes through a bamboo forest you can get to a train station that is only serviced by the local line and that is every few hours. Absolutely stay here, but drive.

First, finding the reception is painfully. See my finger pointing at the reception. Then searching for your accommodation is the second pain which is about 4-5mins drive away in the dark. That's the actual loon of the apartment. Inside the room. Nice cozy one bedroom apartment with separate bath and toilet. Kitchen with dining table and a separate room with tatami beds for four. Greenery surrounding in the cold winter.
