About this cottage rental

If you’re dreaming of a peaceful seaside retreat where the ocean is your front yard and nature sets the rhythm of your days, the Artist Cabin in Lantzville offers the perfect sanctuary. Available for stays of three months or longer, this cozy two-bedroom oceanfront cabin is designed for guests seeking rejuvenation, inspiration, and an extended taste of West Coast living.

Tucked away on a quiet stretch of coastline just minutes from north Nanaimo, the Artist Cabin offers the best of both worlds—serenity and seclusion with convenient access to shops, dining, and city amenities. From the moment you arrive, the sound of waves, the call of eagles, and the sight of seals or otters at play remind you that you’re somewhere truly special.

The cabin itself blends rustic charm with comfort. Inside, you’ll find two welcoming bedrooms—perfect for couples, visiting friends, or simply giving yourself the luxury of choice. A bright bathroom, a cozy fireplace for cooler evenings, and an inviting living space provide everything you need for an extended stay. Whether you’re curling up with a good book, working on a personal project, or simply watching the ocean shift with the light, this cabin makes slowing down effortless.

The fully equipped kitchen and barbecue make meal preparation a joy. For moments of indulgence, slip into the private hot tub and do some star-gazing. There’s nothing quite like soaking under the stars with the ocean breeze as your companion.

As a guest, you’ll also enjoy access to a unique ocean-edge tiny building perched right at the water’s edge. This tranquil space, with its large picture window, is ideal for journaling, painting, meditating, or simply gazing out at the horizon. Many find this little hideaway becomes the heart of their stay—a place for reflection, creativity, or quiet contemplation.

Nature lovers will be delighted by the abundance of wildlife. Bald eagles soar overhead, herons stalk the shoreline, and seals often pop up to say hello. The ever-changing tides bring new discoveries every day, turning even a morning coffee into an event worth savoring.

The Artist Cabin is also pet-friendly, welcoming one well-behaved dog to share in the adventure. Your furry friend will love exploring the shoreline and then curling up by the fire as the sun sets.

Above all, what makes the Artist Cabin extraordinary is its ability to provide rest and renewal. It is a place to breathe deeply, reconnect with yourself, and embrace the slower pace of oceanside living. Whether you’re seeking a creative sabbatical, a restful seasonal getaway, or simply a long-term escape from the ordinary, this Lantzville gem offers a truly unique home by the sea.

Minimum stay: 3 months.

What I would like to tell you is that this place is horrible, no view, everything is far away, and it generally was a really crappy time. And that would be a lie, but maybe then I could keep this as my little secret. The truth is that this quirky, funky little cottage was balm for the soul for 5 glorious weeks of working sabbatical. The view was mesmerizing. The location was perfect. The house is well-kept and was (mostly) very comfortable and efficient and everything worked ... including the hosts. If I lived in Nanaimo, I am certain that Judy and I would be fast friends and that is saying a lot because I'm a bit standoffish in such situations, but she is an absolute dear, as is her somewhat salty dad! I say "mostly" comfortable because I was working from the dining room table, so in the future I will know to bring a good desk chair! The member of our family that probably loved it most is our Good Old Girl, a 14 year old lab mutt. We go camping with her all the time, but she has never been on this kind of trip (and neither have we, at least not for 5 weeks!), never seen the ocean, and (we live in the desert Southwest) never been on grass other than in parks. She was thrilled. She had a spring in her step and oh, the smells coming off the ocean, and under that tree, and down by the water. Her favorite thing was to sit with us on the deck in the morning with coffee and the evening with wine, watching the squirrels (and being duly scolded by them!), sniffing the air, running after the odd raven or two, and generally enjoying life. We agreed with her assessment that this was exactly what we all needed. Now, when we are having a bad day, we look at each other and say, "I sure wish we were at our Other House." So don't come here. Stay away. You'll hate it. Really. :-)

This is a fully equipped, extremely well maintained cabin that exceeds expectations. The kitchen has everything you could require for any culinary experience. The owners are very attentive and responsive to any issue, they installed a new dishwasher within 24 hours of it malfunctioning! The ambience is so restful, artistic and soulful. Beds are great, hot tub very well maintained and clean, garden is beautiful (I had fresh herbs, potatoes, apples, plums and grapes!). It is very clean with many homey, tasteful touches- great art. The view at the edge of the property is spectacular where there is a charming little cabin/gazebo - perfect for meditation, reading, etc., ... Great for a rainy day! Or any day! Highly recommended!

The description for the Oceanfront Cabin exceeded our expectations. The cabin was clean and well maintained with lots of pictures and finishing touches that made if feel like home. The garden was perfect for children to run around and help themselves to fruit and vegetables (although there is no fence going down to the beach so you would need to be careful with toddler aged children). The cabin is in a peaceful location with easy access to the beach and beautiful views. The owner was helpful and friendly. Lantzville is well located to explore the Nanaimo, Parksville and Qualicum.
