Sumu Ueno East

Our stay at Sumu was unbelievably amazing. It was so much more than just a place to sleep. It had everything we could possibly need and genuinely felt like a home away from home. The rooms were remarkably spacious, especially by Tokyo standards. We had a proper table where we could sit together and enjoy our late night snacks from the Lawson across the street, plus a separate living room where we could lounge, watch television, or play games. There was also plenty of space for all the luggage and souvenirs we accumulated during our trip. The space was exceptionally well equipped, with real thought and care put into the details and luxuries. From Dyson hair dryers and Balmuda ovens to a complete gaming station with an impressive sound system, everything felt carefully chosen to make our stay comfortable, fun, and memorable. The location was incredibly convenient, just a quick walk from a major train station and surrounded by plenty of shopping. It made exploring Tokyo easy while giving us a comfortable and relaxing place to return to at the end of each day. What made the experience truly exceptional was the incredibly warm and thoughtful staff. They created a dart gun game for our children and enthusiastically cheered them on, performed amazing intimate magic shows, and organized special events, including a visit from a vendor selling handmade musubi. They even made laminated cards with useful Japanese phrases for our children, who carried them around Tokyo and proudly practised using the phrases throughout the trip. We also stayed at a Mimaru during this trip, and while it was perfectly nice, Sumu was on another level. The space, amenities, hospitality, and personal touches made it one of the highlights of our entire visit to Tokyo. We will absolutely return to Sumu whenever we come back. We could not recommend it more highly.

​Transit Heaven: You are perfectly positioned between JR Ueno Station and JR Okachimachi Station. Whether you are arriving from Narita Airport (via the Skyliner to Ueno) or planning day trips using the Yamanote Line, the ease of access to the train network is unmatched. ​Ameyoko at Your Doorstep: You are practically a stone's throw away from the vibrant Ameyoko Shopping Street. It is incredible being able to walk over to the market in just a few minutes to grab fresh street food, do some shopping. If you prioritize saving time on travel and want to be in the middle of all the action in Ueno, I highly recommend Sumu Ueno East. I would definitely stay here again! Space can accomodate up to max 6 pax, but only 1 shower and 1 toilet.

Incredible spacious experience in Tokyo for the price. Also the staff were super nice and friendly, the culture room has amazing amount of great records to listen as well. This place has definitely become one of my first choices of stay in Tokyo.
