About this apartment rental

Apartment Mila, as we call it, a house in Postira, was built in 1960. Frano Baće—a Croatian graphic artist (1911 - 1993 —envisioned the house as an art studio with a library. It was built by master craftsmen of the time, one of whom was Master Mikulica from the island of Brač. Thus, the entire house is a historical landmark that reflects the local architecture adapted to the weather conditions. The kind of vacation guests can expect in this house is the kind people enjoyed in the second half of the 20th century—the emphasis is on rustic charm. So guests should not expect the opulence found in hotels. There are two bedrooms—a master bedroom and a room with bunk beds—and the living room can accommodate two people, making it a vacation rental for six people.

Rocky and pebble beaches are within 100 meters. At the bottom of the bay is a sandy beach, and on the other side of the bay are rocky and nude beaches.

Postira has a market, a pharmacy, a post office, cafés and bars, a pizzeria, fast-food restaurants, a butcher shop, a farmers’ market during the summer season, and seafood restaurants. There is a sandy beach called Lovrecina, located 7 km to the east. The island of Brac offers bicycle routes, which are popular in April, May, September, and October, since it is too hot in the summer for such activities.

The apartment’s largest front terrace is shared with the neighboring part of the house, as Apartment Mila is the left section of the 59-square-meter house, featuring an accompanying barbecue terrace and a covered terrace with a stone table. Due to the pine forest surrounding the house, pine needles and the scent of pine have found their way everywhere over the past 65 years, along with the “dirt” that comes with the pine. Pine forest air is excellent for people with lung conditions, who can find relief here. So guests staying at this property should be prepared for a certain amount of rustic charm. The sheets you’ll find on the beds may not be ironed to the standards you’re used to, but they’ve been washed at 90 degrees in a washing machine (the photos from the bathroom show an old machine, though a new one was purchased later) and dried in the sun and wind in the yard. The same goes for the towels. Fabric softener is not used in the laundry, as some guests were allergic to it and the management decided against its use.

The photos you see may show you what you want to see—keep that in mind. The actual situation may not match the romantic image you imagined, but it can easily create a different kind of romance that you won’t be able to imagine until you’ve stayed here for a few days. The internet works, but keep in mind that during peak season it can easily be slow due to the high volume of tourists and the island’s limited infrastructure. Due to strong gusts of wind, all doors and windows in the apartment should be either closed or left open and secured so that the wind doesn’t slam them shut and break the glass.

You’ll most likely find radiators in the corner of the living room, as they’re moved into the bedrooms during the cold season—which is good news because it means you can stay in the house even then and won’t be cold. There’s also a tiled wood stove. The photos do not show the radiators. The lamps you see in the nighttime photos of the terrace are kept inside the house, because it’s very windy and the lamps would easily break if left outside all the time. Guests are welcome to set up the lamps on the terrace themselves. Additionally, there are plenty of cushions for the outdoor terrace stored on the same radiators, so guests have the opportunity to make their time on the terrace their own. Guests are asked not to bring pillows into the apartment, as cats might sleep on them, and birds or pine resin could stain them. There are many stray cats in Postira that roam freely and do not belong to anyone. It is not recommended to provoke these animals, as they will defend themselves by scratching or biting.
Since the apartment is located in a pine forest, there is a high likelihood that pine needles will be scattered everywhere. The terraces are cleared of pine needles before guests arrive, but they are not cleaned while guests are staying in the apartment. The current living room used to be a library; as can be seen in the photos, there are still books on the shelves. There may very well be a little dust on those books, as is common in libraries.
The garden surrounding the house is full of Mediterranean plants. The left side of the garden, which slopes toward the apartment, is available for guests’ use. Guests are allowed to place garden chairs, deck chairs, or hammocks as they wish in the garden and on the terraces, as long as they do not damage the plants. Some of the plants, such as pomegranates, raspberries, prickly pears, and citrus fruits, have thorns, so guests are advised to be careful. Additionally, poisonous oleanders grow in the garden and should be avoided.
Barbecuing is permitted. Wood for the barbecue is provided for guests. A rubber garden hose has been installed on the terrace for safety. Out of respect for the island and its resources, guests are asked to be environmentally conscious, to use no more wood than necessary, and to recycle cardboard, plastic, glass, and metal. Guests do not need to worry about the collection of sorted waste, nor do they need to worry about the collection of mixed waste. The wood is stored in a shed to keep it dry—for better grilling—so that guests are provided with ready-to-use, high-quality wood.
