new tradition hotel kanazawa

We loved having the entire machiya to ourselves in the heart of traditional Higashi Chaya District. The house was beautifully kept and felt very private, with curtains giving us good privacy from the street. Self check-in was easy, and whenever we had a question, the team was quick and helpful online. What we enjoyed most were the thoughtful details throughout the house. We bought some local sake and enjoyed it back at the machiya using the beautiful Wajima lacquerware provided. Everything was also prepared for us to make and enjoy matcha ourselves, and the Kutani ware and other local crafts made the whole experience feel genuinely connected to local context. These details made it feel less like simply staying in a beautiful room and more like experiencing the culture of the region through the stay itself. As a historic machiya, the house naturally feels different from a modern hotel, which for us was part of its character and charm. A wonderful stay for anyone interested in design, craftsmanship and culture.

Staying in the heart of Higashi Chaya District was one of the highlights of our trip. During the day the area is lively with visitors, but early in the morning and in the evening the historic streets become incredibly quiet. Walking around at those times almost felt like having the neighborhood to ourselves and stepping back in time. What made it especially memorable was actually staying in a beautifully renovated more than 100-year-old machiya within the district, rather than simply visiting it during the day. For us, the real luxury was being able to experience this historic neighborhood so quietly and privately, while having our own comfortable and beautifully designed machiya to return to. The local craftsmanship throughout the house was a lovely touch, and the hosts were very responsive whenever we needed anything. I would especially recommend this stay to international travelers who want to experience the history and culture of Japan in a more personal and unique way than staying in a conventional hotel. A very special way to experience Kanazawa.

ロケーションがとても良く、金沢の歴史ある町並みの中で滞在できるのが魅力的でした。町家の雰囲気を残しつつ、内装は静かで洗練されており、写真以上に素敵な空間でした。宿の中は落ち着いていてプライベート感があり、次世代のつくり手の工芸品にも触れられました。特に、ダイニングテーブルで自ら本格的な抹茶を点てることは非常に貴重な経験で、一般的なホテルとは違う金沢らしい滞在を楽しめました。また泊まりたいと思える宿です。
