Studio Retreat with Small Garden and Own Entrance

Well, considering we arrived in a unbelievable heatwave, it was nice to get back to our cellar at the end of the day. As it was nice and cool down there. Plus it was nice and quiet for a good night's sleep.

I should of done a little more research on the location. I thought I was staying in Dorking, but alas it was around two miles out of Dorking. If I had gone in the car, then granted this wouldn't have been a problem really. But I arrived by train, and although there are three railway stations in Dorking. None of them are in Dorking. So the town centre is about two miles away. Then the "apartment" is another two miles from the centre. So you have a choice of a taxi or bus. However the buses are very infrequent and are not linked to your train arrival. So you have an hour's wait for one. So yeah, I would stay again. But it would have to be the car I'm afraid.

Lovely and cool in a heatwave with the industrial extraction system (pictured below) and being a basement it kept cool. I liked the little kitchen bench with bar stools. It was quite a spacious flat although quirky Also there were two locks, one on the ground level garden gate and one to the flat. The owner was really helpful and available for anything you needed.

The extraction system was extremely noisy so I had to turn it off when I went to bed or wanted to chill. The flat did smell damp. There was no cold water in the bathroom sink taps, just very hot water that was too hot to wash your hands with. It seemed a fairly makeshift basement conversion, a really old saggy sofa, paper makeshift 'blinds', a kitchen tap that wobbled. The access to the flat was strange, see the picture. The bed was soft and the headboard not attached to the bed, just resting loose against the wall. The kitchen units had handles that felt sticky but were impossible to clean properly. The TV as advertised was a projector screen with access to pay per view streaming channels so you couldn't just watch TV. My Amazon account wouldn't link to it. The garden was minimalist to say the least, and not very nice.
