Sameera and his wife Dinu went above and beyond for us. We booked 2 nights here and ended up staying for 4. Waters meet surf is brand new to Booking.com so there were no reviews, but we checked Google and were so glad we did because it exceeded all our expectations! We thought we were just booking a room close to the beach, but we actually booked an amazing authentic experience with a local Sri Lankan family.
We were welcomed with flowers for my partner and fresh king coconuts while we were shown to our room. The first night we were treated to a beautiful dinner of freshly caught (2 hours prior) grilled Tuna and one of the best rice, curry & papadams we've had in Sri Lanka, cooked by master chef Dinu who also cooked beautiful Sri Lankan breakfasts too. Another night we got to spend the evening with Sameera's friends and family at a dinner party he hosted, it was great to learn the culture, eat more fresh fish and amazing food cooked by Dinu!
Sameera is always on hand to help you with anything you need. When we arrived he noticed a problem with the AC in our room and had someone out to fix it before we even knew there was an issue! He has his own company 'Airport transfers and tours' where you'll get the best local prices for activities all around Sri Lanka and he is so well connected that he can give you recommendations and/or organise things for you ensuring you get the local prices for whatever your plans are. For example, he booked us the best seats on a whale watching tour on his uncle's boat and a return tuk tuk to drop and collect us. He also let us use his scooter anytime we wanted to, all we had to do was ensure there was petrol.
The room was super spacious, had great AC and a desk if you needed to do any work, ideal for backpackers or remote workers looking for an authentic stay.
The beach is so close and perfect for beginner surf lessons and of course Sameera can advise you of a great local surf school!
We loved everything! The only thing we didn't like is that we had to leave!
