1955 Tokyo Bay by Hoshino Resorts

We were fortunate enough to have spent 2 weeks in this hotel when it was another name back in 2021. Most of it is still the same. The added 1950's theme and the restaurant is a nice improvement. Breakfast is great and I recommend renting rooms with the breakfast option. I do wish that while booking I was able to determine what floor rooms are on. Or allow for the adjustment of rooms and location of the rooms if requested. We prefer to be above the 12th floor in hotels that have that option. We were on the 8th. We were on a very good side, facing Disney and Mt. Fuji if it was clear enough to see during our stay. We faced Sogo Park and Tokyo Bay. Great area to go walk or take an early morning jog. It was still a great room and view, just a bit higher on the same side would have been preferential. Staff is great, amenities are great, shuttle bus service to the Disney Resorts and the train station. A solid 8.5 out of 10 stars for Couples or families. Particularly those with small children. We really hope to stay again soon.

Firstly, this was our 3 hotel in Japan during this trip and I’ve traveled in Tokyo 4 times. First time staying at this hotel and it was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had in Japan. I highly recommend not choosing this hotel. We arrived at the hotel late after sightseeing. As soon as we went up to check-in, the counter staff pointed to a big row of tablets against the back wall. Through their very poor English, they said we needed to check ourselves in, even though their were 5-6 staff talking to each other behind the counter looking very lazy. After having to scan our own passports and check ourselves in, we found our Premium Family suite, but to our surprise, the kids bunk beds just had mattresses with no bedding. I thought they may have forgot so I tried calling the front desk….NO PHONE in the room. I made my way all the way back downstairs to be told through a translator app that the hotel does not prepare or make the beds! The room listing said nothing about it on this app. The hotel showed me on their website it stats “Gorogoro” beds our to be made by guests. So at 10PM our family is unpacking and making half the beds in our hotel room. Breakfast is regiment. Early cut-off then most hotels. Selection is small. And again, they make the guests work by having to flip over a sign to tell staff if you are still eating or finished. After a long day of sightseeing and arriving back to the hotel late in the evening, we came back to the hotel room exactly how we left it. Coffee is still in the mugs, wet towels on the floor, garbages full. So again I make my way all the way downstairs (bc they don’t have phones in the rooms) and I’m told through another front desk staff through the same translator app that they only clean the rooms if we leave a magnet on the door saying we want our room cleaned. As I made my way back up to the room furiously, I started to notice all the signs in the elevators were all in Japanese. I then realized our family were the only foreigners in the massive hotel. Simply put, this hotel is not 4-star. It’s simply a weekend destination “resort” for locals. Think twice about spending your money here. Personally, if I pay for a hotel room I should not be the one who has to work. From self check-in, to making our own beds, to having to ask for our room to be cleaned, this hotel has no customer service and terrible value for anyone who is actually on a vacation!
