I was traveling from Belarus and having trouble getting into the EU. So, I took cash with me and had almost no money on my card. The day before check-in, I received a message saying I needed to transfer a 300 euro deposit to my card, otherwise I wouldn't be allowed into the apartment and wouldn't get a refund. This condition wasn't stated in advance. I was scared because, firstly, it's not a small amount, and secondly, I was traveling alone and didn't have that much money on my card. I wrote to the owner and explained the situation: I could leave it in cash or, for example, skip the deposit and arrange for an inspection before check-out and pay for anything broken. I explained the card situation and offered many options, but the owner refused to cooperate. This is terrible!!! He said it wasn't his problem and that I had to pay or I wouldn't get a refund. And all this the day before check-in!! And you can't pay in cash. Only if you go to another city to the office, which is very far away. He didn't care at all, didn't bother to understand the situation, and didn't mention this condition in advance. In the end, I was forced to ask friends to pay for it for me. On top of that, it felt like there hadn't been any cleaning after the previous tenants. There was someone's rotten, half-eaten banana on a decorative plate. It was disgusting. And then I started seeing cockroaches in the bathroom and kitchen.
