Getting in to the building was a bit difficult after 9 pm but other residents and the desk staff helped. The check in was easy and staff welcoming and helpful.
I stayed 4 nights for my phd viva and needed an affordable place to stay. Student castle seemed good in photos and buss stop to uni (line U1) was just outside the building. They require you to prove student status and I submitted all the evidence requested a month in advance, but then 2 days prior I was told the paperwork wasn't sufficient and had to scramble to get a letter of recommendation from my professor. The studio was quiet and otherwise ok, but the bed was hard and uncomfortable. I could feel the box springs through the mattress and it would have required a mattress topper to soften it a bit. If you're not that fussy with beds I guess it's ok but I woke up every morning with a back pain. The sheets were a bit cheap and wrinkly, but okay. It was essentially an empty student room with bare necesseties so you need to bring hair dryers etc, not even clothes hangers in the wardrobe. Luckily I got some free from close by M&S. The kitchen had cutlery and crockery only for 1 person so you need to wash dishes constantly. The dish sponge was used and tatty and no tea towel so had to use the hand towel to dry dishes. No microwave so can't heat up ready made meals, but not enough kitchen equipment or crocery to comfortably cook. I resulted in getting take away and with the price of food it would have basically been the same to stay in a better equipped hotel nearby (for eample Hampton by Hilton on Piccadilly would have only been £100 more for 4 night stay, with breakfast, better bed, hairdryer etc). My room was on ground floor and the window was to adjacent street with people passing and staring in, so had to mainly keep the curtains closed. Wasn't spending my days in the room so it wasn't too bad but a consideration if you're worried about safety.
