The facilities were very nice and it felt more like a hotel than a student‘s accommodation. We liked all the extra rooms (Gym, learning space, laundry facility…) and were impressed by the nice interior design.

We were two people but there first was only equipment (towels and cuttlery) for one person.

We were onboarded and introduced to the space in a lovely friendly way by the reception staff, and the room itself was gorgeous and clean! Super roomy with all the necessary amenities. The location itself was probably my favourite feature; York is very compact and to walk to the accommodation from anywhere in York took no time at all really, and it felt like a lovely little stop if we ever needed to drop off bags or just rest for a moment. Walmgate itself, the street it is situated on, is chock full of quaint independent cafés, bakeries, bars and more. The keycard system worked brilliantly and never caused any problems, with 24/7 reception and security staff within the building if there were any issues. Staff were attentive and prompt at giving us extra amenities not originally included. Space was generally quiet, especially during the summer when uni students often move out.

Tiny issues with noise; renovation noise going on in the space throughout our stay but this didn't cause much of an issue. It started at a relatively social time when we were going to wake up anyway, and didn't continue into the night. We were also out exploring during the day so this didn't cause an issue. Also be aware that it is next to a road, albeit a quieter one, so there may be traffic in the night. I was woken up by some drunk lads chanting in the street but of course this isn't the accommodation's fault. The only other issue is a slight lack of some amenities; no towel designated for the kitchen area to dry dishes if used, and an extra small hand towel for the bathroom that we used as a bathmat. Completely fair for the price but there were also no complimentary tea or refreshments which was fine by me, and the room itself was quite bare but as I say, still had all the essentials. The shower was lovely but the shower head seemed to be put on a bit wonky, as it kept turning towards the door no matter what and I was worried it was going to leak onto the floor. Otherwise, it was grand!

central location, very safe for solo female travelers, 24h gym, paid laundry on site, staff was lovely

cleanliness could have been a bit better, some male hair on the sheets and general deep cleaning of the room needed. bathroom had a slight smell, not of sewage - perhaps smoke from previous resident. also the pillows were soooo flat. however, given the price I can’t complain.
