About this house rental

Maja-erf Vacation Home

General:
Located in a wonderfully peaceful spot overlooking a wooded garden, this cozy, luxurious stone vacation home is comfortably furnished for 6 people.
On the first floor, there is a spacious entryway, a living room with an open kitchen, a laundry room, and a restroom.
On the upper floor, there is a spacious landing, 3 bedrooms, and a bathroom with an additional restroom.
There are 2 bedrooms with a double box-spring bed and 1 bedroom with 2 single box-spring beds.
Smoking is not permitted indoors.
Pets are not allowed.
You can relax around the vacation home, under the covered area, and in the wooded garden, whether in the sun or in the shade.
The garden surrounding the nature cottage is spacious and features natural vegetation.
The singing of the many birds completes the vacation scene.
Open fires and charcoal BBQs are not permitted due to the nature of the area. A gas BBQ is allowed, however.
There are two (women’s) bicycles in the shed that you are welcome to use.
Our vacation home is independent but located on the edge of the “Park Drentheland” recreation park, where you can use the facilities—such as the outdoor pool, tennis court, and playground—for free.
Charging stations are available in the park’s parking lot.
The surrounding nature, the Drents Friese Wold—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—features a dense network of hiking, biking, and mountain biking trails.
At the reception desk, you can pick up cycling routes and, if desired, rent bicycles; they have various types of bikes available.
You can enjoy wonderful walks on the vast Doldersumse Heide (300 meters as the crow flies), which blooms in beautiful shades of purple in August and is teeming with buzzing bees.
You’ll also find Drenthe heath sheep and Scottish Highland cattle grazing there.
Heading toward Appelscha, on the edge of the heath, you’ll find a tall observation tower in the Aekeingerzand, also known as the “bare dunes.”
Climb this tower and you’ll have a magnificent view of a large part of the sand drift.
Near the Aekeingerzand, you’ll also find a small beach with a natural lake where you can swim (Canadameer).
In addition, there are endless horseback riding trails.
If you’d like to bring your own horse, that’s certainly possible.
We recommend contacting the reception desk at “Park Drentheland.”
They offer excellent accommodations for your horse.
In the surrounding area, you’ll find charming villages with village greens, such as Appelscha, Diever, Dwingeloo, and Vledder.
The larger towns are Assen, Meppel, and Hoogeveen.
But you can also have a great time right at the park itself.
There is an outdoor pool with lounge chairs and a children’s pool with a fountain.
Children can also have a great time playing in the playground, which features various play structures.
Children can also play table tennis, soccer, or volleyball, or take a round of mini-golf with the whole family.

Activities:
There are various activities in the area for children.
At Duine Zathe in Appelscha, children can have a really fun day at the playground with various attractions.
The Drentse Koe in Ruinerwold is also highly recommended for a visit with the kids.
In Dwingeloo, there’s an adventure park and swimming pool where kids can play, climb, and explore to their hearts’ content.
On a rainy day, you can enjoy a swim at the subtropical water park in Assen, which features water slides, among other attractions.
The Hesselingen Climbing Park and Swimming Pool in Meppel is also a lot of fun.
You can also visit various museums:
The Drents Museum in Assen is highly recommended, featuring “the largest dollhouse in the Netherlands.”
The Prison Museum in Veenhuizen.
The Miramar Sea Museum in Vledder.
The De Valse Kunst Museum in Vledder is also a lot of fun; it offers various creative activities for children.
Those interested in history can visit the Museum of Benevolence and the Experimental Colony in Frederiksoord.
And of course, you can admire the dolmens, which can be found in Havelte and, on a smaller scale, in Diever.
If you want to learn everything there is to know about hunebeds, visit the Hunebed Center in Borger, which features a museum and a prehistoric park.
There’s also a beautiful butterfly garden in Havelte where you can admire a huge variety of butterflies.
It’s always fun to watch the heath sheep arrive with their shepherd.
There are sheep pens in Dwingeloo on the Dwingeler Heide, in Havelte, in Ruinen, and in Doldersum.
The WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo in Emmen is also worth a visit.
In Diever, there are various open-air Shakespeare performances during the summer months.
The magnificent Shakespeare theater seats 1,000 visitors and transports you to another world for a moment.
If you enjoy strolling through various gardens, be sure to visit De Luie Tuinman in Ruinen—a combination of an ornamental garden, a nursery, a small shop, and a garden café.
You can enjoy a relaxing day at Sauna het Drentse Friese Woud in Boijl.

Various brochures are available at the park’s reception desk and in the wicker basket and on the rack in the lobby.
