Aurora desert camp

We spent two nights at Aurora Desert Camp in Oman’s Wahiba Sands and were absolutely delighted with the experience. Khalid, the host, was incredibly helpful at all times, always ready to offer support and advice. He assisted us with crossing the desert and even helped us by deflating our tires at the meeting point and inflating them again afterwards — thank you again for that. The camp itself consists of only three tents, which makes it a perfect place to truly enjoy the nature and the peacefulness of the desert. The night sky was absolutely stunning, and we even saw wild camels roaming around. The food was excellent, with something for every taste, and the cook clearly puts a lot of care and effort into everything he prepares. The tea and coffee were also outstanding. The beds were very comfortable, and because the tents/houses are raised, no sand gets into the accommodation. It takes about 30 minutes to drive from Bidiyah to the camp. If you do not have a four-wheel-drive vehicle — which is absolutely necessary if you want to drive there yourself — Khalid can also pick you up at the meeting point in Bidiyah and take you to the camp. What is especially worth mentioning is the camp’s total seclusion compared with many other desert camps. In other places, the atmosphere can be disturbed by dune bashing, especially on weekends. The closer you stay to Bidiyah, the more noise and light you will notice at night. At Aurora Desert Camp, you experience none of that — only complete silence and peace. We had very interesting conversations with our host and his friend Mohammed, and we would be very happy to return. We can recommend this camp without hesitation to anyone looking for an authentic, yet comfortable desert stay in Oman.

Nothing-everything was perfect

Sehr privat gelegen, verfügt das Camp insgesamt über drei Unterkünfte. Aufgrund des Nahostkonflikts waren wir die einzigen Gäste. Die Unterkunft ist schlicht, aber sauber eingerichtet, mit einem sehr bequemen Bett und einer Terrasse mit Blick auf den Sonnenaufgang. Ab und zu sieht man in der Nähe des Camps Kamele. Der Gastgeber kümmerte sich freundlicherweise um den Reifendruck unseres 4x4, und wir folgten ihm anschließend rund 20 Kilometer durch die Wüste bis zum Camp – bereits das war ein kleines Abenteuer für sich. Zusätzlich unternahmen wir eine Dunebashing-Tour bei Sonnenuntergang. (Achtung nichts für schwache Mägen ;-) ) Auf unseren vegetarischen Wunsch wurde sehr gut eingegangen; sowohl das Abendessen als auch das Frühstück waren ausgesprochen lecker. Am Abend gab es sogar ein kleines Lagerfeuer nur für uns. Insgesamt hat uns der Aufenthalt sehr gut gefallen, und wir hoffen, in den kommenden Jahren wiederzukommen.

Der Host war super freundlich, hat uns viel erklärt und ist einfach ein Profi in seinem Fach. Wer wirklich Wüste erleben will, ist hier absolut richtig! Alle Erwartungen wurden übertroffen!!

L éloignement du camp dans le désert, uniquement 3 chambres donc intimiste, Khaled nous a très bien accueillis et nous a emmené voir le coucher de soleil en 4x4 dans les dunes c était merveilleux !
