Commonly known as “Foodie Row,” the Hawthorne/Buckman District puts you within walking distance of a wide variety of top-notch local flavors, with no chain restaurants in sight! Make new friends over vegan poutine fries and grilled PB&Js at the Cartopia food cart pod, get messy with wings right around the corner at Fire on the Mountain, share a pie at Apizza Scholls (consistently voted Portland’s favorite pizza), or opt for a fancy night out at Castagna—all within a 1.5-mile stretch.
Portland isn't just for foodies; the vibrant indie spirit of Hawthorne is alive with plenty of made-in-Oregon shops and boutiques to explore. Catch a movie at the Bagdad Theater and Pub, a revamped 1920s theater turned view-and-brew venue serving local McMenamins food and microbrews. If bar hopping through neighborhoods isn’t your idea of recreation, head up to Mt. Tabor, a 196-acre city park atop a dormant volcano vent, where you’ll find miles of hiking trails and incredible panoramic views of the city.

The apartment was very cute and clean and the location is fantastic. The host was super responsive and helpful. A few minor things to note in case they matter to you: the mattress is very soft; the microwave is on a shelf above the refrigerator - there’s a step stool but it can be tricky for things like soup; there’s very little counter space in the kitchen. Other than that the living room is spacious, the couch is full size and very comfortable for watching tv, and the bedroom is light and airy. A solid choice in a great, walkable area.
