Lakes Cottage Beckermet

The location was ideal for what we wanted to do which was climb Scafell Pike. We were a 30 minute drive to the lakeside parking which meant we were up and down the mountain before lunch. Parking was easy, the beds were comfortable, the TV worked and the shower was nice. I feel like we maybe paid a little bit over the odds for the property but I'm not disappointed in our stay at all.

Honestly, it will be a great place once it's finished. There are several issues however. It rained on our second night. Not a problem in itself, but we could hear the rain coming down behind the tiles in the bathroom which could be indicative of a bigger issue. Talking bathroom, the shower, whilst lovely, had algae growing on top of it and has a silverfish issue. This will ultimately be down to the humidity which won't be helped by a lack of ventilation or extractor fan. The issue behind the wall may be a contributing factor in this. We found several coins on the floor in the bathroom which were dusty. I feel like this means corners have been cut when cleaning. Some of the finishing is a little bit ropey. Gaps in the skirting boards etc. ultimately not a huge issue. There's a little bit lacking when it comes to self catering. One saucepan and one frying pan makes it harder to make a good fry up for a morning of hiking. I would have liked a bit more in the way of utensils in that regard.

Good 2 night-stay. The cottage was clean and tidy. It is located close to the Scafell Pike hiking trail and the beautiful St Bees Beach.

A few things that aren't really important but which I would like to mention: there are only two towels for four people. The cottage is quite close to the main road and can be noisy at night when there is traffic, but it's not unbearable.

Great Location for the Western Lakes; nice and quiet, great addition of a fire stick with profiles already set for the cottage, bathroom and kitchen clearly upgraded, lovely and clean bedding.

Only 2 towels provided for 4 x guests, lower oven in the kitchen did not work, only the top one heated up. No thermostat available to adjust heating temperature and no logs provided for the log burner fire. Washing machine in the property would be useful for longer stays. Could tell it’s been updated with Kitchen and Bathroom being new but still needs some finishing touches in the living area and bedrooms.

We liked almost everything
