The Grand Hotel Cairns

I love to stay in a pub, there are too few left.

clean, cost was good, not noisy, staff was friendly, nice atmosphere and loved the historic artifacts

Food could have been better, the crocodile was tough, overcooked and the pork bites were very salty, the potatoes were undercooked (brava potatoes)

Classic Aussie hotel. Great verandah and classic bar which is actually a carved wooden alligator, clean but basic rooms, a decent lounge. Handy to everything

The check in process in the bar is a bit off-putting. I was never sure what I was suppose to be doing or where.

It was very well located. Rooms had aircon and there were towels provided. There are also outlets and a nightstand, and when you need to go back to the airport, a taxi stand across the street to stand at. There is also a really nice wrap around balcony that you can sit on and take in the fresh air.

There was literally one sink for all the women of the entire hotel. Also there was only one mirror. There were constantly people needing the sink if you needed to brush your teeth, and if someone was at the sink you could not see the mirror. Moreover, there was no reception. You need to go to the bartenders at the bar downstairs and they let you into the room which made it hard to check into or at least figure out where to check in. If you are arriving at like between 3 am and about 11 am, there are no on site staff to even hold your luggage, unless you know the manager's phone number. The hotel is also in a general sense, rather outdated in terms of furniture, and there were no working TVs which was rather sad considering that the world cup was on and none of us could watch it.
