MORE ABOUT THE HOUSE AND MONTE ARGENTARIO
Our house is situated in the foothills of Monte Argentario, a mountain promontory with long sandy beaches and a rocky coastline in southern Tuscany. It is as suitable for smaller groups in September and October when the prices are lower and the weather cooler.
Most years you can swim right up to the end of October.
The house itself with 10 acres of land is a completely private place and yet only five minutes from the sea and the village of Porto Ercole with its pretty harbour, restaurants, bars and cafes
Apart from the views, perhaps the most striking feature is the wide-ranging terrace, planted with pomegranate, olive, pine and lime trees. Here you can eat out either under a pergola or at another spot looking across the sea. In the evenings the outside lights make the terrace seem to be a part of the house.
Nearby under the eucalypts you will find a ping-pong table and a trampoline for children. Elsewhere a badminton court close to the secluded pool for an after-game swim.
And only five minutes away is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the Tuscan coast. Extending from the Argentario in a 6 kilometre crescent to the mainland, the Feniglia has all the seaside facilities including bars, restaurants, wind-surfing, water and jet skiing.
Behind the beach is a magnificent pine forest with deer and other wildlife. Bicycles can be hired to ride through the forest and you can stop at various places along the way to swim and which is considerably less crowded in high summer - see photographs

SOME INTERESTING THINGS TO DO IN OUR AREA
Take a ferry to the nearby island of Giglio and eat at one of its excellent sea-food restaurants and swim in the crystal-clear water.
Follow one of the many hiking trails which will take you all over Monte Argentario, opening stupendous views up and down the Tuscan coast. One of them begins at the bottom of our drive.
Rent a boat and go round the Argentario visiting the blue grotto and the many small bays on the shore.
Visit the sulphur baths at Saturnia, an hour's drive from the house.
Don't miss the unique Etruscan tombs at Tarquinia.
Take a boat trip round the nearby lagoons where you could see flocks of migrating flamingoes (depending on the season) and other wildlife.
Visit the Tarot Garden designed by Niki de Saint Phalle near Capalbio, a hillside town 35 minutes from the house with first class restaurants and sensational sunsets.
Wander round the market which takes place every Monday in Porto Ercole and on Saturday in Orbetello.

The villa is set in the hills above Porto Ercole and has magnificent views of the harbour and surrounding countryside. We are a family of 12 adults and 4 children and there was plenty of space for us all. The dining facilities and are excellent with an outside table located under a shady pergola and there is a large terrace to relax in of an evening. The local beach is one of the best I have ever been to and is very safe for children. The beach bars offer a selection of excellent food and good restaurants can also be found in the town.We had an amazing time and would love to return in the future.

All we needed to feel comfortable was in place. The house is optimal for a grate family of 15 persons: 8 adults and 7 children (2-11 years)

I have spent several wonderful holidays with groups of friends in this delightful house. Everything the owner says about it is accurate in every detail. Trust him!The house is spacious, comfortable and simply and beautifully decorated and maintained - plenty of room to escape to read a book or to socialise, with an attractive, shady garden and a terrace with a magnificent view over the surrounding hills and the sea. Catering for onself is easy in the large well- equipped kitchen, and housework is efficiently taken care of by a local maid. For children and active adults there is table tennis, badminton and a charming pool (long enough to keep fit) set among flowers and trees. The house is filled with books for all ages.The surrounding area offers wonderful walks in the hills and safe swimming on local beaches with restaurants, loungers and umbrellas etc and a very appealing, friendly atmosphere.The local port, Porto Ercole, is an attractive, unspoilt fishing village with lovely cafes, restaurants, and clothes shops. Orbetello, the nearest town, has a fabulous weekly market. I wholheartedly recommend Casa Moorehead and its location for a perfect Tuscan holiday.Patricia
