This is a top-floor sun-washed penthouse overlooking Athens’ urban panorama: wide swathes of the metropolitan basin and the mountains that cradle it. From the bedroom balcony you can gaze at Lycabettus Hill and the Acropolis, and perhaps even hear the Muses singing to you.

Reaching the Acropolis, Lycabettus, or any other point downtown is quick. A bus passes beneath the building every ten minutes and brings you to Omonia Square and Metaxourgeio Square in ten minutes, or less.

Two metro stations are also nearby: Metaxourgeio and Larissa (which is also the inter-city rail hub for destinations such as Thessaloniki, the Peloponnese, and the island of Evia), each no more than a twenty-minute walk from the apartment.

The flat is set in Akademia Platonos - Colonus, one of Athens’ oldest, history-soaked neighborhoods. Here, in a grove of olive trees, Plato founded his School of Philosophy in 385 BCE. Here, too, Sophocles imagined Antigone and Oedipus seeking refuge and facing fate with dignity in the Oedipus at Colonus play around 400 BCE. A few minutes’ walk away lies the historic park that has formed the heart of the district for 2,400 years.

Today, the neighborhood is stubbornly, deliciously local. You will meet the occasional tourist, yet no taverna, bar, café, or restaurant will turn out to be a tourist trap.

On Wednesdays, Voutadon Street is barred to traffic, becomes a farmers market and floods with stalls of figs, sea-salted olives and the earth-warm scent of tomatoes. There is a supermarket and two pharmacies directly beneath the building. Any other service you might need is only a few minutes walk away.

The quarter is completely safe at every hour of the day. Its squares and the park’s surroundings are packed with businesses open until the late hours, filled with locals who dine, drink, and laugh while their children run and play around.

As visitors, you will not encounter any anti-tourism sentiment; instead, you will meet curiosity, friendliness, and a willingness to help.

The apartment’s interior measures 42 m2 and consists of an air-conditioned living room and bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with a rain-shower.

The apartment also boasts a 20 m2 glass-walled veranda, perfect for dining, gatherings, and above all for creative work in the open air. Tradition holds that Socrates, Plato’s mentor, taught outdoors so the mind could breathe freely. Follow his example by scrolling through your morning e-mails in the sunshine, or by setting a laid-back yet intellectually charged dinner for new friends as the city lights begin to glow.

A further 5 m2 open deck invites sun-bathing breaks and quiet contemplation of the view.

The flat was designed to offer comfort, leisure, and inspiration, born of a deep love for Athens’ urban character and vibrant cultural life: its exciting galleries, its many open-air cinemas, and its lively fringe-theatre scene.

Within walking distance, you will find several galleries and, above all, engaging theatres. Athinon Avenue also hosts concert halls and nightclubs frequented by locals. We, the owners, are available not only for any practical issue but also to provide recommendations for authentic local experiences that ordinary tourists often miss.
