Wilpattu Safari Resort

Incredible location, surrounded by wilderness. Short journey to the Wilpattu entrance gate and the hotel helped book us a safari. Rooms were spacious, with outdoor space to relax, and all mod-cons inside - (fast wifi, tv, modern bathroom). Food in the evening and breakfast was very nice (buffets and set menus). Staff were very friendly and attentive.

I would suggest changing the music style and volume in the restaurant space (loud dance music was not really the vibe!). We could hear rooms above/below at times, but did not detract from our stay.

Such a responsive, welcoming and super-helpful team at Wilpattu Safari Resort! Nothing was too much trouble and their excellent communication so helped us organising our trip. We loved our 3-bed, 3-bath villa. Modern equipped rooms designed in keeping with the environment, well furnished, and very clean. Excellent wifi. Downstairs was particularly special - we were #5 at the end with jungle at the rear and our lap pool & trees to the side where visiting birds, squirrels etc could be viewed through the windows. I was unwell one day but found the room cool, lovely and peaceful to relax in. We had 10 days in various resorts in Sri Lanka and this was my son’s favourite room! Safari - the resort is close to the national park entrance. We were unlucky and missed seeing leopards on our full day safari but the Wilpattu birdlife and scenery is still spectacular. Next time we would ask to drive less (it is bumpy and dusty) and stop more to relax and absorb the magical spots … This is a small resort atm but seems to be developing, there is a lovely large high ceiling indoor AC restaurant with simple fixed menu covering western & Sri Lankan options - it is good food and enough variety for our 2-night/three dinners and breakfasts there. The team were very helpful in dealing with dietary restrictions. Guests often brought their own bottle of wine to drink over dinner. Can imagine sundowners overlooking the landscape in a future bar up on the restaurant terrace … Finally we experienced no issues at all with mosquitoes (stayed mid August) which was fantastic!

Nothing of note, this really special accommodation currently with very simple facilities and dining. Only minor suggestion is that swimming pools and balcony baths do need a pre-check-in clean (the monkeys seem to have enjoyed our bath!) and showers/tapware needs some limescale remover & polish up to perfect presentation of the otherwise very clean & attractive bathrooms.

The resort is located right inside the forest, very close to the park's main entrance, which is perfect for the morning safari exploration. The wooden cabins were amazing, spotless, and beautifully decorated.A true highlight was our private pool—swimming late at night while listening to the beautiful sounds of the forest was pure magic. The staff was incredibly friendly, polite, and always smiling, making us feel so welcome. Both breakfast and dinner were fantastic, with delicious flavors. To top it all off, the free karaoke they offered us after dinner made our stay truly unforgettable. Highly recommended!

The room was good, clean, and comfortable, and the chalets looked amazing from outside.

However, the overall experience did not meet expectations. The kitchen staff service was not very satisfactory, and the food quality was disappointing. Considering the amount paid, I do not feel the stay was worth the money. There is still a lot of room for improvement in service and food standards. The hotel has potential, but it needs to improve in several areas to provide better value for guests.
