Shalom Homestay and Boating

I’m writing this with a lot of emotion, and to be honest, it's hard to even type it out. When my wife, our two kids and I booked "Shalom" for our trip to Honnavar, we were simply looking forward to a peaceful family getaway. We had no idea that we were about to experience one of the most terrifying days of our lives, or that we would meet two real-life guardian angels in the form of our hosts, Mr & Mrs. Furtado. Just as we arrived in Honnavar, a full 500 kms away from our home in Bangalore, we were involved in a terrible car accident with a bike. In an instant, our excitement had turned into an absolute panic. We were completely shaken up, our kids were terrified, and the car was severely damaged, almost undrivable. To make matters worse, we suddenly found ourselves dealing with the police and facing demand attempts from the other party. We were stranded, helpless, and didn't really know where to turn. That is when Mr & Mrs. Furtado—whom we now fondly call Uncle and Aunty—stepped in. They are an elderly couple, but the strength, grace, and tireless energy they showed us that day was nothing short of miraculous. When we couldn't breathe, they became our lifeline. Uncle immediately took charge of the situation on the ground. He stood by my side, accompanied me to the police station, and used his local presence and wisdom to talk down the other party and reach a fair compromise. He didn't stop there; he personally took me to a local mechanic, ensuring my car was fixed up enough so we could make the long journey back. Aunty was working a different kind of miracle. Her warmth & calming words around my shaken wife and terrified children, offering them the comfort similar to that of a grandmother. Every single time she gently assured them that God is kind & everything will be okay! Her beautiful prayers and soothing presence turned a place of panic into a true sanctuary for my family.

Had a wonderful stay at Shalom Homestay. It is very budget-friendly and truly feels safe and comfortable, just like home. The location is perfect, with boating points at walking distance which made everything very convenient. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming, making the overall experience even better. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and affordable stay.

Yes I love this beautiful place.

My entire experience here was amazing. The rooms were clean and spacious enough for three people. The hosts were warm and very helpful. If you think language could be a barrier, worry no more, because one of the hosts understands and speaks Hindi. We were a group of three girls and he consistently checked on us to ensure we were safe during our outings. He also assisted us with finding auto rickshaws and organizing a boat ride to Honnavar. We had a great time!
