The Hyde Paddington

Very close to underground, lots of shops close by.

The sink in the bathroom was partially blocked, the water took a long time to drain. The shower was terrible, you couldn’t adjust the height and the water was spraying everywhere apart from your body. There was no glasses to drink out of, there was only 2 coffee cups and there was 3 of us.

Low budget cost for an overnight stay, very convenient for Paddington Station.

Climbing over 90 steps up winding staircases to an attic room in blistering heat is no fun so be prepared. The facilities were basic but tired with some broken fixtures e.g. shower head fixings and a missing sink plug. It needed a deep clean to be honest but we were too tired to complain given the weather conditions. You need to be supple to get to the loft bed and I don't recommend looking out of the roof window as the roof condition might worry you! Thankfully, there was an electric fan to circulate the hot air and the window remained open throughout providing some relief. Sadly, the sofa bed was not long enough so a little uncomfortable trying to get a good night's sleep. Evacuation in an emergency would have been a challenge and was a concern as was the empty fire extinguisher used as a door stop when we arrived. Overall, I learnt a salutory lesson in economising our brief stay in London and next time I will increase my budget. The Hyde was adequate but nothing more and I wouldn't choose to stay there again.
