The apartment and location is highly recommended; the hosts were really lovely and very quick to respond to requests. We stayed for 5 weeks and had a wonderful time. The apartment is very spacious and the kitchen well equipped. The complex is gated, has secure parking, very clean and has two swimming pools. The beach is a 5 minute walk (good snorkelling straight off the beach) and there are lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. The Carrefour supermarket is a 5 minute walk and has a good selection of food. The Cascavelle shopping centre is a 10 minute drive and has an excellent supermarket called Winners. There is also a food court with a selection of food outlets. Additionally, on the beach there are many street food vans with plenty of choice. Highly recommend Gelato Heaven and PizzArt around the corner from the complex. Pakbo and Sunset Garden restaurants were also good. The Black River nature reserve is a 30/40 minute drive, we hiked there extensively and most walks were finished with a swim in the river. Otherwise, we did a boat tour to swim with the dolphins, a fishing trip (caught a huge tuna!) and other driving trips as there is lots to see and do. It's very safe, I wanted to buy fabric and went alone into the back streets of Port Louis holding my phone (would never hold my phone on the street in London). The people are very friendly and helpful; some spots are a bit touristy (eg hiking up Le Morne) but it's easy to get away from the crowds. Would recommend a car if you're staying for a while.
