Imagine waking up to the gentle sound of nature, surrounded by majestic mountains. It is in the heart of the emblematic village of Curral das Freiras that a unique refuge is found: the Heart of Madeira.



This three-storey accommodation, with one apartment per floor, was carefully designed to reflect the soul of the village. Every detail transports us to the essence of Curral das Freiras — from the colours and textures inspired by the mountainous landscape, to references to chestnuts and the famous artisanal ginja, symbols of local hospitality.



The choice of the name "O Cidrão" is no accident. It refers to the mythical Montado do Cidrão, an area of great natural and cultural value in the parish, where the legend of the Bicho Cidrão dwells — a restless soul of a shepherd who, according to tradition, haunts the mountains with his roar that announces storms. This legendary spirit is part of the community's imagination, representing the deep connection between the people and the untamed nature that surrounds them. By naming the accommodation with this name, we honour that heritage and evoke the mysterious, mystical and enchanting side of Curral das Freiras.



The apartment offers two welcoming bedrooms — one with a double bed and another with two single beds —, a modern bathroom with shower, fully equipped kitchen in open space with living room, air conditioning in all rooms, laundry area and shared private parking.



The location could not be better: right in the centre of the village, just a few steps from the parish church and all essential services. Here, you are at the doorstep of incredible trails and viewpoints such as Poço dos Chefes, where the communion between nature and community is evident.

Between 15th and 26th December, Curral das Freiras experiences one of the most special times of the year, marked by Christmas celebrations and the traditional Midnight Mass services, held in the early hours of the morning.



During this period, it is common to have live traditional music, popular celebrations, gatherings, fireworks and other cultural events. Activities begin during the early hours and can extend into the morning, so there may be noise and movement of people in the vicinity of the accommodation, especially in the early hours of the day.



It is a great opportunity to experience and witness Madeiran Christmas traditions up close!



Guests are responsible for the proper use of the accommodation and its equipment. Damage, loss or misuse identified during or after the stay may be subject to a damage fee, intended to cover repair, replacement or extraordinary cleaning costs.
