A vacation on the cozy Stern houseboat “Flying Dutchman,” moored right on the waterfront at the Wiking Marina on the Schlei, a fjord of the Baltic Sea, offers relaxation and rejuvenation, freedom, or adventure—whether you’re traveling with friends, family, or as a couple.

This spacious, moored houseboat offers you all the comforts of a modern, high-quality vacation rental across 48 square meters of living space, as well as a 60-square-meter sun deck and rooftop terrace. In the cozy, light-filled living room with an open kitchen, you can relax on the couch and in the armchair, or gather around the spacious table for a delicious meal or a game night. Through an illuminated fish-view window, you can observe the underwater world in the evening.
The fully equipped kitchen, complete with all essential appliances and a gas stove with an oven-microwave combination, leaves nothing to be desired. The dishwasher helps you get back to focusing on the essentials of your vacation quickly. Inside the houseboat, you’ll find two cozy bedrooms in addition to the living area, as well as a modern shower room and a separate toilet. The first bedroom features a 160-cm-wide double bed, while the second has a 140-cm-wide bunk bed with an additional sleeping space on top. Of course, there’s also Wi-Fi and satellite TV, and you’ll find plenty of storage space in the closets in each room.
From the spacious upper deck, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Schleswig and the Schlei, a Baltic Sea fjord, including the Möweninsel nature reserve. Make yourself comfortable in the cozy lounge area or in the comfortable beach chair and relax while enjoying the view of the water. Downstairs, a covered terrace with a large table and five chairs offers a magnificent view of the Schlei and Schleswig. Here you can enjoy breakfast at sunrise and start your day off right. In the evening, enjoy the maritime atmosphere from a front-row seat with a sundowner.
Refreshed and ready to go, there’s plenty to discover: The central location offers excellent opportunities for a day out on land—for example, to the old fishing district of Holm or to Gottorf Castle. Right near the harbor, you’ll find plenty of shopping options, cafés, and restaurants, as well as the tourist information office and a bike rental shop. By bike, you can explore the Haithabu Viking Museum and numerous quaint villages nestled in the countryside, among other attractions. Or you can take a cruise along the Schlei on the historic saloon steamer Wappen von Schleswig. Numerous natural swimming spots, lakes, and the nearby Baltic Sea beaches also offer a refreshing escape on summer days and invite you to take long walks in the spring and fall.
Please note that the use of bed linens is mandatory. You can either bring your own or add them to your booking during the reservation process.

The houseboat Flying Dutchman is a committed sustainability partner of Ostseefjord Schlei GmbH. Since 2022, the houseboat has also been an official partner in the network for sustainable vacations on the Schlei Baltic Sea Fjord.
Sustainability is a top priority here, with a special focus on:
• Guests have access to biodegradable products such as shower gel and shampoo, dishwasher tablets, and dish soap. Biodegradable toilet paper is also provided to protect the environment.
• The lighting on the houseboat uses energy-saving LED bulbs.
• The infrared ceiling heating is controlled automatically via Wi-Fi.
• A biological wastewater treatment system with a 3-chamber system for so-called graywater ensures clean wastewater. A water-saving valve helps conserve water during use.
Bicycles can be rented in the area because Schleswig-Holstein is particularly well-suited for cycling.
The motto is: We must do whatever is possible for future generations.

To combat hunger, we support a permaculture school project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. To ensure clean sanitation, a three-chamber biological wastewater treatment system was installed on the houseboat. To promote climate protection, we support Permakultur e.V. in Hamburg. Starting in 2023, we will plant a tree in Schleswig-Holstein for every booking. Guests receive their own certificate for this. We are also sustainability partners on the Schlei and the Baltic Sea.
