About this house rental

Relax in this traditional Lakeland cottage in the picturesque village of Motherby, only 7 miles to Penrith and a stunning 15 minute drive to Ullswater and Keswick. A perfect location to explore the northern lakes and fells, with easy access by road. The beautiful private garden is the perfect place to unwind in peace and quiet after a day out exploring, with uninterrupted views to enjoy over your favourite tipple.

There is plenty of space for coats and boots as you enter through the back door, including a washing machine and space for drying clothes. This leads straight through to a convenient downstairs shower room.

The kitchen is fully equipped, with plenty of space, including a table and chairs. The cosy living room has many period features including a wood burning stove, perfect for warming up in the cooler months. Help yourself to the selection of board games on offer, or stream all your favourite programmes on the flat screen TV.

The newly refurbished garden room provides a bright, open outlook over the stunning countryside views whatever the weather. Here you can dine at the large table or relax on the sofa with a cuppa.

Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other with full size twin beds, both with magnificent views out over the countryside and blackout blinds ensuring a good night’s sleep. The newly refitted family bathroom includes a separate shower as well as a bath for a longer soak.

The nearest pub, The Herwick Inn, is within easy walking distance in the nearby village of Penruddock, with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, local beers and ales and traditional pub food, including their famous pies. A little further down the road in Greystoke is the Boot and Shoe Inn, also with great food options, friendly staff and live music on Sundays.

There are shorter walks straight out of the cottage, or if you fancy a longer hike, you are close to the Caldbeck Fells and Blencathra. Lake Ullswater with its water sports and famous steamer and the market town of Keswick can both be reached in 15 minutes by car, and Penrith with its shops and restaurants is even closer. There are endless cycle routes straight out of the door, or why not visit the famous Aira Force waterfalls, just over ten minutes by car?

This lovely cottage in a quiet village setting provides the perfect getaway with so much to do and explore. It is also very accessible, being only a short distance from the M6 motorway with off road parking for up to three cars and an EV charging point.

If you are bringing a dog, please be aware that there are livestock in the adjoining field.

WHAT A VIEW!A fantastic stay in a beautifully presented house! The views over the hills were stunning, and the location was ideal—peaceful yet close to great walks, with an excellent local pub and farm shop. The inside was clean, cosy and well-equppied making it a great home from home. The hosts were fantastic and quick to respond. Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this little gem on the outskirts of the Lake District. Communication with the owner is very friendly, the house itself is very clean and cozy, equipped with everything we could have wanted. Waking up to a splendid view over the fells and sheep meadows from the bedroom windows, followed by a nice breakfast in the garden, was one of our everyday highlights during our one week stay.

We enjoyed a comfortable Easter family holiday at Harbour House. The area was very quiet which suited us away from the crowds, with nice walks on the doorstep.

I've given a 5 star review but unfortunately its really 4.5, not 100% perfect. My problem ( and it might be me ) was the upstairs bathroom shower, the flex hose and showerhead have been replaced at some point and the new showerhead does not fit securely in the old head clamp, so when the water is turned on the showerhead moves around and up and down. Just difficult to shower. Otherwise the property is perfect. I agree with all the other reviews, great location, great open views from the property and garden, we kept our dog on along lead as the field beyond was full of sheep but our dog wasn't interested. Easy to explore the lakes, we did go down to Windermere, more commercialised then Keswick, visited many of the smaller National Trust locations around Keswick try "Surprise View" and also "Tarn Hows" past Ambleside. Diving up the M6 from the South it was easy to drop of the A66 into Penrith to stop at the Supermarkets to stock up the cottage. We did have a power cut and Kathy and Andy were quick to assist with getting the hot water back on again, very helpful owners.

Very Good .. Nice accommodation, tidy and clean. Have suggested a further television be available to allow different viewing - keeping a 3-1/2 year old happy with only one television is not easy!! Also having available a second key would allow the freedom of an early riser to go and get local eggs etc without having to worry about the door being locked and egress safety compromised.

We relatives that have a holiday home just south of Penrith. Needed somewhere to stay that was handy for visiting them and the fells etc. This was ideal, located just off the A66 with excellent access to the northern lakes outer fells. We will certainly be returning.
