We booked a few nights at Saluga Bamba while visiting Shirakawa-go, and it turned out to be one of the most unexpected highlights of our entire trip to Japan. What we thought would simply be a peaceful place to stay in the mountains became an experience we won't soon forget. The food alone is worth making the trip. Seriously, make a reservation for dinner! I've eaten at numerous Michelin-starred restaurants, and I can confidently say that the dining experience here rivaled, if not surpassed, them all. Nearly everything served comes directly from the surrounding mountains or the owners' own garden. Wild mushrooms, mountain herbs, locally sourced venison, homegrown vegetables, homemade sauces, and even wild teas. The drinking water comes straight from a natural mountain spring. Kenji personally walked us through each course, explaining where the ingredients came from and how they were prepared. A common theme throughout the meal was, "This comes from the mountain," or "We grow this ourselves, right over there." He even thoughtfully translated the entire menu into English for us. Every dish was an explosion of flavor and a fascinating introduction to the natural resources of the surrounding mountains. From wild-foraged ingredients to homemade ketchup, freshly harvested potatoes, and pumpkins, the attention to detail was extraordinary. This wasn't simply dinner. It was an experience, a story, and a genuine connection to the land. And somehow, the included breakfast was every bit as impressive! Beautifully presented, thoughtfully prepared, and filled with ingredients grown or gathered locally. The food here may have genuinely ruined us for the rest of our trip. Beyond the incredible meals, the property itself is exceptionally clean, stylish, and thoughtfully designed. It has a modern, chic atmosphere while maintaining a wonderful connection to its natural surroundings.

Absolutely nothing. Our only regret was not planning to spend more time here.

部屋に小さい冷蔵庫は欲しいです…くらいですかね
