We voelden ons hemels. Vanop het terras, dat mooi vernieuwd was, heb je een prachtig zicht. We werden bovendien zeer hartelijk onthaald door Eric en zijn echtgenote. Echt een aanrader.

The apartment had originally been a gate house building from medieval times, so it oozed charm. Its bedroom and ensuite bathroom were at street level (which had almost no traffic, so was exceptionally quiet), and there was a staircase that went down to the level below which had a kitchen and living area, and which opened out to a lovely outdoor terrace area. When standing in this terrace area, there were fantastic views over the countryside below the town. Unfortunately though, when seated, the height of the stone walls around the terrace mostly blocked these views. It would be great if this area had a set of bar stools and a high table so you could still see the view while seated. The host lived in a separate building about 30m away. He was very friendly and informative. We were able to park inside the residents-only restricted area about 100m from the apartment. There were a few restaurants in town which were only 5 mins walk away. There were lovely walks down from the apartment to the small river and forests that ringed the town. Overall, we had a lovely stay in this quaint walled hilltop town.

Sainte Suzanne is a former commune in the Mayenne department in north-western France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune of Sainte-Suzanne-et-Chammes. It is a member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France Association. Accommodation: Cottage Le Passe-Muraille Sainte-Suzanne is perched on a rocky peak overlooking the Erve valley from 70 meters, between Lavaland Le Mans. Sainte-Suzanne is best known as the medieval city which defied William the Conqueror. After a long tiring journey from Dieppe Cecile greeted us in Eric's absence (our host was detained with personal business) in the knowledge of our previous visit 14yrs ago with the previous owner John-Phillipe. The gite is a super property to stay for a w/end to explore the Dordogne Valley a Medieval walled town with a castle. Sainte Suzanne has a village ambience with a splendid Cafe/Bar - 'Cafe de Tour' and super restaurant 'Le Clos' providing friendly efficient service. Heritage of this era is still visible - the Erves dolmen (oldest monument in Mayenne) as well as recent archaeological excavations reveal the origins of the site dating from five to six centuries BC. Behind its ramparts, Sainte-Suzanne is said to have resisted Guillaume the Conqueror. Built on the site of the old medieval fortress, the Renaissance castle is the work of Guillaume Fouquet de la Varennes.
The gite does require re-configation as it is rather dysfuntional with egononimic consideration. suitable for outdoor activity vacation only requiring a bed/bathroom.
