The Square Hostel Jongno

We stayed in 3 rooms at The Square while on family vacation. After booking the rooms through Agoda, I realized that children don't stay for free so I reached out to the hostel through email and checked in. They gave me a fee to add the children to the room, which we agreed upon. However, when we arrived at the hotel, the manager asked "are this many people going to stay here?" and had no recollection/record of the prior agreement. When I pulled up the email chain, he lowered the fee for the kids and we were able to check in. In the middle of this, I communicated with english, which he did not understand. When I switched to korean, which I was less comfortable with, he said "oh so you could speak Korean all along." The rooms were generally clean and the staff was diligent in changing our towels and taking out the trash everyday. It is a hostel so there's no room cleaning during the stay. The only big problem with the one of the rooms were the smell. The bathroom smelled like vomit and sewage the whole time we stayed there and only let up after showers. All in all, the location and general cleanliness were great but the rude manager and the room smell discouraged us from staying here again.

You can find the hotel easily from the station, and it’s also convenient for accessing restaurants. But the room wasn’t cleaned properly, and there was a very bad smell coming from the toilet. I can’t really describe what kind of smell it was. If you’re only staying there to sleep for a short time, I would recommend it.
