About this hotel
Ratnapura is worth visiting. While renowned for its gem industry, the city offers a blend of cultural attractions, historical sites, and natural beauty with waterfalls, making it a unique destination. Whether you're interested in gemstones, history, or nature, Ratnapura provides a rich and memorable experience.
Ratnapura is a major city in Sri Lanka. It is the capital city of Sabaragamuwa Province, as well as the Ratnapura District, and is a traditional centre for the Sri Lankan gem trade. It is located on the Kalu Ganga in south-central Sri Lanka, some 101 km southeast of the country's capital, Colombo.
And Ratnapura is also spelled as Rathnapura. Mining and trading of gems is an integral part of Sri Lanka's history and trade. Gemstones were major trade commodities for Sri Lankan kings and gemstones from Ratnapura have found their way to royalty and museums around the world for at least two thousand years.
The most expensive gem in Sri Lanka, known as "Ceylon Gem," is the Alexandrite. This rare variety of chrysoberyl is prized for its unique color-changing property, exhibiting different hues (green in daylight, red in artificial light). While many fine gems are found in Sri Lanka, including blue sapphires and padparadscha sapphires, Alexandrite is particularly valuable due to its rarity and the quality of stones produced in the country.
We are arranging to get unforgettable experience by visiting inside of Gem pits. And get wonderful activities with Gem cutting and polishing experience buying gemstones and jewelries for our guests.
