Hotel Ganthera Kandy

Bit away from Kandy city center. Rooms were spacious and clean. However the overall maintenance of the hotel is lagging and seems to be on cost cutting mode. However a good budget option with a pool and elevator access to upper floors.

Response at reception is good. Suits for family.

The best part about this hotel is the room itself. The ac worked great and the beds were extremely comfortable. The bathroom however needed a deep cleaning. It looked like they took the biget and sprayed the entire bathroom down before we arrived as everything was wet but definitely not clean. The staff were friendly however maybe a little understaffed as some things took a while. Like I asked for a pool towel and it took someone 45 minutes to bring me one. We also had a staff member constantly coming to our room to ask us questions even once after we were already a sleep to ask us when we were coming for breakfast the next morning and to remind us we owed him money which we did and already told him we would pay the following day. They have a scheduled time for breakfast and when I said I didn’t know when I would come down because I might sleep in they suggested a time and I just said sure. Not sure why I need to be there at a certain time if they have breakfast hours. We were also offered beer/wine with cash payment and when I said I didn’t have enough I was told a card was fine. A staff member leaves the hotel with your money to purchase it and I assume prefers cash so he can pocket some extra which is fine he’s going out of his way. However the second time he went I only had card and when he returned he said my card wasn’t working which wasn’t true because I get notified anytime my card is swiped even if there’s a problem. I think he paid for it then wanted us to go to an atm for cash to pay him back because the amount he told me wouldn’t be the same charged to my card because he pockets some of the money. He then asked three times that day when we were going to get the money for him once being when he came to our room after we were a sleep already. The closest atm was a 16 minute walk and it was our first day there so finally we said look we’re not leaving the hotel until tomorrow you will have the money when we get back for the day it’s not my fault you agreed to use my card than didn’t because you wanted to keep a couple of bucks. Just get your own drinks if you can there’s a fridge in the rooms. Them going to a store to get you something is a hassle and takes an hour of waiting just to get a beer Doors are kept open in the restaurant and lobby for fresh air but it also attracts a lot of flies which is a little frustrating while eating. The food is good for the price though. Overall a comfortable stay and the staff was always checking in just a few things that were a little annoying but based on my personal preferences
