A hearty “Moin” and “Welcome” to our renovated vacation farm—nestled in an idyllic orchard in the quaint village of Upleward. Upleward is located between Emden and Greetsiel and is characterized by various very well-preserved historic buildings that give this East Frisian circular village its own unique charm.
Our apartments in the front building of the vacation farm feature high ceilings with original exposed beams throughout. The historic block-frame windows and shutters were handcrafted to match the original style and perfectly complement the appearance of this historic, listed Gulfhof. The former barn wing houses bright and spacious apartments with floor-to-ceiling windows. All vacation apartments are individually designed, modern, and furnished with great attention to detail, offering a relaxing view of the green spaces with mature trees from the terrace.
Built in 1851, the Gulfhof BOOMGAARDEN had stood uninhabited for 40 years and was already showing signs of weathering. Thanks to the initiative of East Frisian historic preservation enthusiasts, the building was extensively renovated and converted into a charming vacation farmstead. The preservation of the original structure and the retention of its distinctive details give all the apartments a unique character.
An integral part of the farm is an extraordinary collection of apple, pear, plum, and mirabelle trees, and a communal fire pit enhances the recreational value year-round.
Our vacation farm is the ideal starting point for a wide range of activities: hiking, biking, or kayaking in the Krummhörn region, water sports in the Wadden Sea, cultural excursions to popular nearby towns such as Greetsiel, Pilsum, and Emden, or even day trips to the East Frisian Islands. The dike and dry beach nearby also invite you to linger.
Gulfhof Boomgaarden - 4 Aafke (first floor/upper floor):
Our Apartment 4 is one of ten apartments in the former barn wing of the Gulfhof.
It measures approximately 84 square meters and, with three bedrooms, can accommodate 5–6 people.
The successful blend of old and new, high-quality materials, and carefully selected furnishings round out the apartment’s exclusive character.
The apartment spans two levels. In the open-concept lower level,
cooking enthusiasts will enjoy a fully equipped kitchen, a large dining area, and a cozy living area with a 75-inch TV and a Sonos speaker. There is also a guest restroom and a spacious storage room here.
The upper level features three bedrooms, two of which face the garden and offer views of the dike. One of them has a double bed, and another has two single beds that can be easily converted into a double bed or a bunk bed.
A third room, which faces the interior of the barn, can be used as a third bedroom (it features a very high-quality sleeper sofa with box-spring technology and a sleeping surface measuring 140×200 cm) or, alternatively, as a home office, TV room, or playroom.
All three rooms are equipped with a 32-inch TV.
Furthermore, there is a bathroom—which also overlooks the barn atrium—featuring a spacious shower and a Finnish sauna that accommodates 2 people. One of the barn’s historically protected timber trusses is also integrated into the bathroom.
The third bedroom and the master bathroom on the upper floor face the barn, meaning the windows offer a beautiful view of the barn atrium. For safety reasons, these windows cannot be opened; fresh air is supplied here by a high-quality ventilation system.
The terrace, which overlooks the dike and is equipped with Kettler patio furniture for 6 people, a parasol, and a Weber kettle grill, faces southwest and allows for sunbathing all day long. Adjacent to the terrace is the old orchard and a beautiful pond, which is naturally fenced in.
The patio doors as well as the windows on the upper floor are equipped with insect screens, privacy screens, and blackout options.
In addition, the apartment is equipped with a variety of children’s items, including a high chair, a travel crib with an extra foam mattress, a safety rail for one of the single beds, a baby bathtub, children’s tableware, stair gates (both at the bottom and top of the stairs), and night lights.
For longer exploration tours in Krummhörn, guests staying in our apartment also have exclusive use of three bicycles (at no extra charge).
For longer stays, a weekly interim cleaning of the apartment is available upon request for an additional fee.

Important note regarding the travel crib
Please understand that we do not provide mattresses for the travel cribs for hygienic reasons.
If needed, please bring a suitable 60x120 cm mattress with you. The lightly padded, foldable, and wipe-clean base is, of course, included.
Check-in is from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and check-out is from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
